One of the highlights of covering a European auto show like Frankfurt is the amount of forbidden fruit on hand. Most of the cars we admire from across the pond, like this Škoda Octavia RS](http://www.autoblog.com/tag/skoda+octavia+vrs/), are on display, allowing us to see them, sit in them and push their buttons.
Powered by a 2.0-liter, turbocharged four-cylinder that should be plenty familiar to American Volkswagen drivers, the hot Octavia comes to market with 217 horsepower, allowing it to hit 62 miles per hour in a reasonable 6.8 seconds. For those that prefer something different, Škoda](http://www.autoblog.com/tag/skoda/) is also offering a 2.0-liter, tubodiesel four-cylinder, complete with 181 hp and 280 lb-ft of twist. The oil burner will sling the Octavia to 62 in 8.1 seconds while returning 51 US miles per gallon on the UK’s combined cycle. Sounds a lot like a Jetta GLI or the new Golf GTD, right?
Inside, the Octavia RS features an awesome set of racing buckets and a a sporty, leather-wrapped steering wheel complete with contrast stitching. Other than those changes, it’s not all that different from the interior in the regular Octavia. The Škoda adds browny points for versatility as well, coming as a five-door liftback sedan (an underutilized body style) or as a five-door wagon.
