Are you one of those jaded enthusiasts that think all of today’s Aston Martin models look the same? Gorgeous though they may be, the brand’s products and design language have gotten a bit, shall we say… familiar. Gorgeous, but familiar. The British marque’s cupboards have been bare of all-new product for a while, which means that Aston is in the unfortunate position of having to celebrate its centenary with little more than the admittedly beautiful CC100 Concept and a few special-edition models.
The latest is this DB9 Centenary Edition, which at least continues to look spectacular, and features a graduated hand-applied paint finish that includes special ‘tinters’ to realize an “inner darker color.” Aston says the special hue can add as much as 18 hours to the painting process, which itself can take some 50 hours. Other special tidbits include Deep Soft Black leather borrowed from the One-77 supercar combined with silver stitching and special embroidered logos. Other exterior differentiators for this DB9 includes sterling silver Aston badges with ‘trans flux’ enamel inlay, and the obligatory sterling silver serialized badge. A similar treatment for the Vanquish was revealed at the Geneva Motor Show, and V8 Vantage and Rapide editions are expected as well.
