However, how would a simple matte around the painting in a light grey, and then a matte steel frame look on the outside? Let me find an example.

With the bulk of the flower being to the right of the canvass, I don't know if I would actually put a frame on that picture, it looks a little like one of those montage pieces. That said, a thin, simple frame in either a silvery grey or even black would probably do me.

I would go for a brick red color or maroon color matte frame
As the picture has too much black and whites so need to use some other contrasting shades to enhance the painting more on a WHITE WALL

On a serious note Niks I would not want to frame it with borders or anything.It will go on some wood and show its beauty.
