Sohail Abbas’s second half goal helped Pakistan hold Olympic champions The Netherlands to a 1-1 draw in the four-nation hockey tournament in Hamburg, Germany, says a message on Saturday.
After a goalless first half, the Dutch went ahead after resumption. Matthijs Brouwer put world champions The Netherlands 1-0 ahead in 54th minute by scoring on a penalty corner. The Pakistanis equalised six minutes later through penalty corner specialist, Sohail Abbas, who scored off a short corner.
Hosts Germany, with several new faces in their line-up, beat Olympic silver medallists South Korea 2-0. Both the goals came in the second period. Sebastian Biederlack, playing only his second international scored the opening goal in the 38th minute. Oliver Hentschel, playing his third international game, netted the second goal four minutes from time. Pakistan meet the hosts Germany in their second match on Sunday, while the Koreans will be battling against the Dutch the same day.
The Pakistanis are on a 17-day tour of Europe to prepare for the all-important Champions Trophy to be hosted by Lahore from Nov 3-11.
