Hi all! Need some advice on this please. I have dry/oily combination skin. Naturally the t-zone is oily and the rest of my face is dry. Usually a moisturiser helps but I feel like whatever foundation i apply just drinks up the moisturiser and parches my skin, giving it a flaky uneven un-blended look And I’ve used Mac, Clinique, Christian Dior and also some lovely high street brands like L’Oreal and Rimmel. Now I’m soo put off I don’t want to spend anymore money on these. Plus I think I’m a bit of a pushover when it comes to sales assistants, so in their lighting and with their nods-of-approval, i leave the store pretty pleased with myself, only to try it on another day and Not to mention feeling like a complete plonker
Any suggestions? Someone said Mac Fix Plus spray is really good for the dry foundation patches on the face, has anyone tried it?
Re: foundation: cant live without out but cant find the right one to live with!
join the club, i’m the same way, i’d rather not even put on foundation b/c i’ve tried a couple and they just never match my skintone. i love my skin color and wouldn’t ever want to change it but it’s hard to match, the color for concealer seems the best match but in terms of foundation, i feel like i’m an odd ball i’d rather go without it now, i give up:bummer:

I LOVE my Makeupforever foundation -- it's the only one that has worked for me so far. I used to have MAC (the tube foundation) and Clinique. MAC left me with pimples because it was full coverage and I don't think it was oil free -- it was horrible on my skin. Clinique was lightweight, but it didn't suit my skin either. Makeupforever is amazing! If anything, go to Sephora and get a small sample. Try it for a week and see how you like it :)

Laura Mercier has a very good line as well! I got a sample from Sephora and was pleased with the results. It's full coverage but goes on very light. If you have blemishes or pimples, I wouldn't recommend this one -- it doesn't always cover up those nasty red spots you get from recent pimples.

Oh no, i hated Nars Sheer Glow, it makes dry patches even more obvious ! and i've heard a lot of people say that too, wouldn't recommend it personally.
The Bad cook, you need to find a good moisturizer because that's certainly why your foundation doesn't go so well
Try the Hydraquench mask by Clarins, it's for dehydrated skins so it also works with oily skin, you should see an improvement if you use it regularly, i've seen great results with it, or you can make your own with honey and lemon.
They also have an oil free moisturizer in the Hydraquench line

OMG. I had the same problem. Foundation would never look good b/c most of them would accentuate my dry skin. So here is what worked after a long long time:
Eucerin's Plus Intensive Repair Enriched Lotion (there's a small 4.z oz bottle which I use, it's around $4) and it has been the best thing I have used. Not only does it give my skin moisture but it doesn't irritate it nor cause flakiness. Just apply it 5 minutes before your foundation and it is a miracle. I have been struggling with flakiness (esp in the crease of the nose and under the eye/lip area) so try this and see.
The only foundation which worked: MAC's Face & Body (I use C2/NC20-25) and I apply it with my fingers. Brushes only raise the flaky skin and cause foundation to sit in. Either try hands or use a sponge like the Beauty Blender. This foundation is excellent b/c it is light and can be built up to get the heavier coverage. I personally don't really need foundation so I just use it to cancel out redness once in a while. I LOVE THIS STUFF!
I set it with a loose powder like Laura Mercier's translucent loose powder OR MAC's Mineralized Skinfinish Natural (I use Light-medium).

Haha^
Yup, it's the Sheer Glow foundation in shade Punjab. It won't work for her skintone unless that is her correct color. But on a side note, most people found it accentuated their dry skin. Probably b/c it's quite thick, similar to Revlon's Colorstay (many people say they're the dupes of each other).

Ooh I had no idea we could ask for samples to take with :k: I’ll defo look into it. Would be much easier on the wallet to try them out at home before settling on one I like. However I dont think theres any more Sephoras left in the UK. Absolutely loved that shop, it was like a better version of the bodyshop.

Alhumdulilah no pimples but just lots of redness which makes it a very uneven skin tone.
Re: foundation: cant live without out but cant find the right one to live with! :(
have u tried NARS punjab??? (do put the primer before putting the foundation)
I havent tried NARS tbh. Will look into it though.
Thanku everyone for your advice. Much appreciated :) i shall persevere and be more resilient to the sales tactics/ charms of the makeup counter girls lol
Re: foundation: cant live without out but cant find the right one to live with!
CinnamonRoll and m_was_here, i tried to find a way to put both your quotes in one box, epic fail, so just imagine ive done that… I think youre both right about the moisturiser, i have slight eczema on my cheeks so i use diprobase lotion which is really hydrating. But when fhe foundation goes on after a few mins, it refuses to glide on, like the ads promised it would! but i will defo try the hydrating mask and the eucerin lotion and keep you all posted
Re: foundation: cant live without out but cant find the right one to live with! :(
Aside from a good moisturizer, don't use a heavy foundation. That's why I recommend the Face & Body by MAC. Just use a good moisturizer underneath and apply a light foundation on top. It has buildable coverage so if you need it, you can put on another layer. And no harsh brushes to buff it in the skin or painting it on. Use your fingers.
Re: foundation: cant live without out but cant find the right one to live with! :(
I meant something that can cause the texture of the dry flaky skin on your skin to get raised/lifted, if that makes sense. Of course brushes give a better finish BUT only if your skin can handle the bristles. Dry/flaky skins tend to get flaky after buffing in foundation. My skin is normal-dry/combo so depending on the time of the year, I can only use hands to apply it or a MAC 190 or Sigma F80.
Re: foundation: cant live without out but cant find the right one to live with! :(
^true, yea blush and powder is application is different. that's why get a smooth application of foundation first before applying any of that stuff. I have never found a moisturizer that doesn't congest my skin, soo :S
Re: foundation: cant live without out but cant find the right one to live with! :(
^oh, I was referring to foundation application only. Of course you have to use brushes for blush/powder. And what skin type do you have? In the summer when my skin is normal-oily I use the Kheil's Ultra FacialOil-Free Lotion. It's a moisturizer for the face and the texture is similar to a cream-gel so it is VERY light. Very cooling and soothing but also super-hydrating as well.
