Thanks for such a descriptive post..
It really is necessary to take these factors into consideration when buying a foundation..
I was repurchasing a MAC foundation last week and found out that my shade is NC37 instead of NC44 (which i was previously using) and i used to always get annoyed because i felt too orangey but i did nothing about it up until now.

When i went to the MAC counter first time, SA match me to NC 45. she tried it on my face, and it made me look like i am terribly sick. then i searched and searched online, read different blogs of indian girls who seemed like my skin tone, and decided to go with NC 40 because it was matching sooooo many indian girls. but it was giving me that gray cast, and even thought the color didn’t look too bad on me, but it just wasn’t something i was happy with. so later i went to mac and decided to go with a color darker than NC 40, and found my match NC 42. i am really happy with it. it doesn’t make me look sick like NC 45, and doesn’t give me any gray cast either.
