Foul Language

is it becoming a norm? esp with the desi community over here.

I was raised in a family where v were taught 2 say ‘aji’ instead of ‘aray’ and ‘hum’ instead of ‘mayn’. I rmmbr when my bros use 2 come back home after involving in a fight n my parents use 2 ask them the reason they’ll just say that sum guy gave them sum gali which infuriated them. no matter how much my parents tried 2 ask like wat gali was it but my brothers were just unable 2 spill it out coz it’s just not decent.

I have recently encountered desis who use desi n english slurs in their ev day language n dun even realize that their is sumthing wrong abt it. It’s a surprise 4 me and it’s not abt belonging frm a specific area or ethnicity, over here I hv seen majority of the pakistanis doing it whether they r panjabi or urdu speaking or sum1 else

I really feel out of place in these circumstances, like did I missed sumthing? esp the desi girls they’ll just call each other by names which I can’t even imagine thinkin abt. n every 1 seems 2 b fine with it, n sum of these terms r like v nasty n dirty but nobody seems 2 b bothered by it.

I really feel uncomfortable n confused that shud I point it out 2 them or not?? :bummer:

you must be talking about the ghetto and slang… and YES, its the norm :halo: nowadays

its also in part to the communities they live in and where they grow up near school and neighborhoods

You know like the saying: “You are the company, You keep”. very true.

Re: Foul Language

yes its becoming a norm sadly. but u don't hav to be like others in ur group. once they realize u don't use such words they won't use it with u.

Re: Foul Language

maybe its the ABCD in me but i honeslty donot see what's wrong with calling someone tum or something. idk. i was used to saying "tu" and "tum" but that changed cz husbands family doesnt speak like that.

but khair, yeah sometimes i drop the f-bomb. (and the B-bomb...and S-bomb. but thats as far as i go)

Re: Foul Language

Different strokes for different folks.

In Sara's case, various types of bombs

Re: Foul Language

using swear words is a very bad thing. i never did and will never allow my kids to swear whenever i have one iA. it must never be tolerated in our homes [muslim] so people may argue with my instance but hey that what i think is right and i will do that iA

Re: Foul Language

Since when is "mein" a desi slur?

Re: Foul Language

I use the s word every so often, for emphasis though and i’m tryna break the habit

I guess swearing is a form of affection/friendliness:konfused:

Re: Foul Language

wow Sara look at all these bombs.
i use desi bombs. :hehe:

Re: Foul Language

No bad words, swearing or slangs for me…try to avoid it as much as i cant…but occassionally, some simple bad words do come out..have to stop them as well:hinna:

Re: Foul Language

erm, we are all guilty somewhere or the other … During my boarding school days , I ended up saying all the wrong words in my day to day speach… … got chittar and jootay from my mom when i returned home for holidays :omg:

But I see it , i wouldnt let my kids drop bombs for no reason :naraz:
