Re: Forum changes: Bazaar, Travel & Tourism, Business & Careers and Arcade posters:
Guys, I should have added it in my main post...but the main reason for changes was simple. Some forums were doing better while others weren't. So we decided to merge the ones who barely had any posts and also had similar content and moved them to the new channels which reflected their content. I would rather have 5 forums doing very well than 5 doing well and 5 just being there for the sake of it.
An example would be Business and Careers. Both had similar content but barely enough posts, so merging them was a logical conclusion. Same with moving Gaming to S&T. Bazaar was moved in Lifestyle because we have a lot of people wanting to know where to buy xyz for Weddings etc so both these forums next to each other made sense. Microbian, Pak Music only has 1.5k posts in years...that amount of post count did not warrant the need for a separate forum so it got merged with Showbiz Pakistan. Obviously if we have a demand for a new forum we will make one, case being GS Book Club.
Re: Forum changes: Bazaar, Travel & Tourism, Business & Careers and Arcade posters:
Religion shudn't be merged with philosophy I think.
Another thing is threads not belonging to a forum not being moved. Recently there were planty of these in Life1, that did not belong but stayed.
Icono, there was a Moderator shuffle going on in Lifestyle so maybe they got missed. Please let me or S02 know about any thread you see and it will get moved if its not in the right section.
Re: Forum changes: Bazaar, Travel & Tourism, Business & Careers and Arcade posters:
Renaming and shuffling is not a recommended way of doing stuff on a high traffic forum. First it will drop your traffic and second your seo will be f'ed up.
Thank you for your advice and worry about whether Azkar knows about this or not. This was decided amongst all of us, being a senior Guppie I am sure you know this has been done before as well, if you don't remember it I'll be glad to give you old GupShup links.
This was done by keeping the traffic numbers in mind, perhaps you can read my post above and that will give you an idea why it was done. :)
Re: Forum changes: Bazaar, Travel & Tourism, Business & Careers and Arcade posters:
I don't get what the complains are about? This is a change that was long overdue on GS. I can remember a thread that was opened just a couple of months ago, where people also mentioned getting rid of a few forums. If the main forum of GS was checked out just yesterday prior to the changes being made, one could have noticed that there were at least 24 forums before. That is one too many forums.
And what SEO? What traffic? GS was literally dying in terms of traffic. The only way new people hit on GS was by searching for a specific topic and they hit on that thread through the search engine. No one was out there looking for a specific forum to post their threads in. There were 4 different image forums before. Was there a need for 4 image forums? Along with Canvas which is another image-centric forum? Not really. The forums that are relevant to the current traffic and population of Gupshup are still around, so I highly doubt the "SEO" has been affected.
As for Azkar, isn't it a presumptive of you to assume that the Director of GS would not have sought out the opinions and approvals of his seniors before implementing any changes? Were there any questions when the former Director was bringing in new forums when they were desired? If there were not any questions or objections about that then, then I don't think it's appropriate to question if Azkar has been notified of the changes now. It is the Director of GS that is making changes after all, not some hacker from out the street changing things around, and if Azkar had any objections to who was the Director then I don't think Shak would have even thought about making any changes in the first place.
Re: Forum changes: Bazaar, Travel & Tourism, Business & Careers and Arcade posters:
Still no Gif support... Boooo. There's still nothing in games (Quickie)
But nice stuff.
please do suggest some new ideas on games and I am sure the director and the CM will take those into account. It is your site and suggestions for improvements are most welcome.

Wow! A good change... Except religion being merged with philosophy. Like Icono, I feel both shouldn't be merged.
