Formula 1 season 2008

With the F1 season about to get underway in a fortnight’s time, it is good to read a very nice article on Prost’s opinion about the current state of affairs in F1:

I especially like the line: “Prost believes the sport still has some way to go before it is a contest again and not an extended science project.”

So who is your favorite for this season? :stuck_out_tongue:

Re: Formula 1 season 2008

rule changes for the 2008 season:

**I especially like the last sentence, that they won’t be wasting fuel any longer at the start of the final session :k: ** I already found it difficult to cope with last year seeing 10 cars running around the track on a high-fuel burning setting without setting fast times with the sole goal being reducing the fuel load

Re: Formula 1 season 2008

ferrari whining..why doesn't it surprise me :)

Re: Formula 1 season 2008

As expected Ferrari and McLaren have a huge advantage over the rest of the field.
It is going to an interesting race on sunday :k:

Re: Formula 1 season 2008

hamilton opens the season with a win!!!!

Re: Formula 1 season 2008

McLaren duo docked 5 places on the grid for tomorrow because of blocking opponent cars in the final session :o

Ferrari seem in good shape. Wait till tomorrow how it unfolds. Malaysia is very unpredictable...

Re: Formula 1 season 2008

Mclaren is an easy target these days. they claim they were as much to the side as they could be heidfeld and alonso claim they were not. I guess they wanted these guys to pull over in the green or something and let them pass.

Alonso has been a spoilsport as we all know, and hiedfeld is still bristling from comign in second place in australia, he was makign excuses even then.

Fairly calculated move from nickie boy, with teh problems with Ferrari cars in the last race, he is really focused on Mclaren as his rivals.

lets see

Re: Formula 1 season 2008

Raikkonene grabs his 16th win of his career as he basically was unchallenged.
Massa retired after a silly mistake and landed his car in the sand. Actually, Im not very fond of Massa; he is a mediocre driver at best, and makes the silliest of mistakes. He's very unreliable in his driving as well. Only reason he seems a title contender is because he is in a Ferrari. I'd rather have a driver like Webber or Rosberg or Heidfeld driving the second red car.

Hamilton finishes 5th after an eventful race. Title race seems to be wide open with Hamilton and Raikkonen the two favorites, but the BMW boys Heidfeld and Kubica aren't far behind.

All in all I think Ferrari are the fastest of the three teams, but least reliable. Followed by McLaren en third BMW.

Of the 6 drivers I'd rate them as follows:
from fastest/reliable to slowest/most prone to mistakes

  1. Raikkonen
  2. Hamilton
  3. Kubica
  4. Heidfeld
  5. Kovalainen
  6. Massa

Re: Formula 1 season 2008

what was the deal with massa?
force india needs to change their name for this season to farce india..can sutil drive. and i dont mean drive on an F1 circuit...but does the guy know how to drive a car..period.

trulli did a great job of defending against Hamilton.

and for all his talk about he coulda been so much fatser in qualifying had he not been held up, Heidfeld dinn demonstrate all that speed on the circuit on race day. same for alonso..

Re: Formula 1 season 2008

Narian Karthikeyan is fastest Indian says its difficult to drive in chennai then on F1 Circuit :D

Re: Formula 1 season 2008

hehe I believe it .. maybe send some rikshaw drivers to drive in F1.

Re: Formula 1 season 2008

challo ji, alonso is threatenign to leave Renault already for Ferrari.
so here is my take, he was ticked off at not being given the royal treatment at Mclaren and I think his role at getting Mclaren in trouble was much bigger and he had some kind of dodgy handshake with Ferrari and now is moving in that direction.

Massa may be sent packing, but could an ego like alonso lear to live with Kimi?

:D

Re: Formula 1 season 2008

Massa becomes the third winner in as many races this seasons as he led start to finish. Raikkonen ensured a Ferrari one-two.

Hamilton had a horrendous race: first he forgot to accelerate when the lights turned off, and in a moment of uncarefullness crashed his car into back of Alonso’s Renault. From then on he was struggling to win positions and he had even the guts to tell off Fisichella and Sato (?) for holding him up for so long :smack: (hellooo, you’re not overlapping him; it’s a fight for positions :o )

Re: Formula 1 season 2008

Because of the time zone and holidays on Friday and Saturday, I am unable to follow the Gran Prix like I used to, but Hamilton was a bit of disappointment in Bahrain as I saw it in the highlights.

I think Raikkonen is proving to be a bigger disappointment compared to Massa. Massa was always No. 2 for Ferrari.

As I predicted last year :), I think (maturing) Kubica will be major player this year.

Re: Formula 1 season 2008

^you're right that currently there is no one driver standing out as being much better than the rest. This ensures there will be more drivers contending for the title and will make this season very nice to follow.

But on the otherhand don't expect supergood driving (in the rain) or overtaking manouvres from this lot (although the overtaking of Raikkonen on Kubica from the outside in turn 1 was very good)

Re: Formula 1 season 2008

The good thing is that we have a number of drivers that can win and its not a 2 dog race.

F1 has been more fun off track than on. did max really think he can muck about with Denis and get away scott free.

well...looks like Denis is going to take ol maxey boy down with him.
