Raza is a domestic umpire and was caught as part of the stings going on after zulqarnain gave his information to ministry of interior, PCB and the ICC anti-corruption unit.
The fact that 1 domestic umpire has been participating in illegal betting is a sign that cricket was being influenced by insiders in Pakistan.

i don’t really see a relevant connection between domestic pakistani umpiring and IPL betting. sure the guy should be punished but my point is that sports betting is a pretty minor issue.

fully agreed that fixing is the main problem and not just betting..

i guess deep down we know that it’s these illegal gamblers that cause match fixing.. they encourage it.. they harvest it.. not all of them but it’s just their type who does it.. hence the added hostility..

yes because we have come to see the words ‘betting’ and ‘fixing’ as interchangeable. the vast, vast majority of bookmaking and betting is legitimate and unrelated to fixing.

of course fixing is linked to bookies but that 's all the more reason to legalize and regulate sports gambling. release this beast from the stranglehold and monopoly of organized crime syndicates and seedy bookies. in pakistan there may be religious issues involved but in india there is no reason to keep sports betting illegal.
