Former Pakistan PMs in poll pact (Bhutto and Sharif)

Re: Former Pakistan PMs in poll pact (Bhutto and Sharif)

Some Mush gems of wisdom since we are all mentioning the past:

Mushs spokesperson post october 1999 ‘while others may have tried to hang on to power, we will not. We will make history’.

Musharraf: ‘All I can say ‘Is that I am not going to perpetuate myself … I can’t give any certificate on it but my word of honour. I will not perpetuate myself’

Re: Former Pakistan PMs in poll pact (Bhutto and Sharif)

^ everyone who gets at top finds him/herself in love with the power with almost no accountability :D

Re: Former Pakistan PMs in poll pact (Bhutto and Sharif)

Benazir Bhutto on Nawaz Sharif:-

**Justifying the coup, she said that Sharif “created conditions” for the military take over. “He has sought to dismantle democracy...

**and on General Musharraf:-

he is motivated by patriotism.”
**
“a courageous and bold professional, committed to civilian order.”**

Re: Former Pakistan PMs in poll pact (Bhutto and Sharif)

But BB and NS signing a code of conduct and coining ethical procedures is like bandits composing laws. Composing laws and codes etc is great, but in this case we'd better "look who's talking"...

Re: Former Pakistan PMs in poll pact (Bhutto and Sharif)

Agreed. In the prevailing situation what do you think that who else should?

Re: Former Pakistan PMs in poll pact (Bhutto and Sharif)

Would be better if these two sign a "code of conduct" for their own parties as well. Talking about "will of the people" on national level, while keeping their own @rse firmly planted in party's "krusi" (chair) is kind of strange.

Even if this "national code of conduct is signed", there is a possibility that Mullahs or MQM may trump them.

On a positive note, this agreement should pave the way for stable 2 party based system in Pakistan.

Hoping for the best.

Re: Former Pakistan PMs in poll pact (Bhutto and SHarif)

Minime, obviously you have not seen how voting takes place in villages. majority of people vote based on the orders issued by the local hadd haraam, whether it is a qabaili sardaar, some chaudhry or some vadera.

I am all for starting and maintaining a tradition of “fair” elections where people can vote freely. However, such a tradition does not exist. in cities things are a little different, but villages, qasbas etc is a completely different situation. read up

Re: Former Pakistan PMs in poll pact (Bhutto and Sharif)

I think they mainly penned who will get how much share off of each contract signed with foreign firms (i.e SGS Cotecna, Turkish firm for highways, Daewoo, Hub) or how much will they share from a “forgiven” loan for some fondry/sugar mill

Re: Former Pakistan PMs in poll pact (Bhutto and Sharif)

There is NO phreaking way these idiots will stay together after getting in bed for few months or until after their “united” govt is abolished by “the” president (which will be Mushy  ).

Re: Former Pakistan PMs in poll pact (Bhutto and Sharif)

Right on! If history teaching anything about politikos in Pakistan, they will for sure ruin the system due to some petty squables.

However NS and BB are not making a poll alliance. They are agreeing on a code of conduct. I have my doubts about their sincerety. Still we ought to maintain some hope about politikos.

NS and BB are not the sharpest knives in our drawer.

Re: Former Pakistan PMs in poll pact (Bhutto and Sharif)

The code is an excellent idea..if it broadens to include issues of provincial autonomy, SAFRON reform it would definitely help bring in smaller political parties and give the MQM a viable option if it ever decides to dump the Kings party.
it is unfortunate though that both leaders have not launched a reform of their parties election system and make it more democratic.

Re: Former Pakistan PMs in poll pact (Bhutto and Sharif)

Especially an autonomy for FATA. It should be made Khattak province.

Sadly! That's true. Every party in Pakistan remains hard core dictatorial, one-man, setup.

p.s. MQM can't survive by itslef. The leader is in Queen's party, and the rest of the gang is King's.
