A gentleman. A leader. A rare one down batsman for India in that era. And a top class first slip fielder. A Mumbaikar who led Bombay to several Ranji trophy championships with players under him including Sunni Gavaskar, Ramnath Parkar, Sudhir Naik, Suru Nayak, Padmakar Shivalkar, Farouk Engineer, Eknath Solkar, Abdul Ismail and a few others. Died at the age of 77.

Just read he led his team to win over WI and England in their homes in 1971. Must be super-exciting.

He was also headcoach in 1992-93. Perfect accomplishments in the world of Cricket.

Yes. Gavaskar made his debut in West Indies where India beat Sobers et l. Then India beat England in England. Then MCC toured India in 1972-73.And India beat MCC led by Tony Lewis when Tony Grieg made his debut. Three series win in a row.
