Formal/Bridemaids outfits for Pregnant Women!!

Hello there ladies,

Havent posted for a while - missed GS!

As per my other thread in the parenting section, a thought just occured to me and i wondered what would you wear to wedding if you are pregnant?

Do you guys have any photos? What do you think about a sari? Do you think that would look elegant? And what colour?

Looking forward to the replies.

Re: What can you wear to a wedding during pregnancy

sari sari sari.. its the best thing you can wear.. doesnt make u look like a sack of wool and i find it quite elegant. ive worn saris during my pregnancy and some ppl were surprised to know there was a bump under the folds  not that i was trying to hide it :snooty:

kurta pyjama is good too.. but not wedding-y…

Ya, thats what i was thinking too Khawateen but what about the sari top - i mean it would only fit on top of the bump and how can you cover your pait? Haha...

Would you mind sharing some pics thru pm...if you dont mind? I would be v grateful...

Re: What can you wear to a wedding during pregnancy

It depends in which stage/month you are. I once wore a simple lengha and got s/k made for pregnancy, if its made nicely like the shirt folds after the chest it looks nice!

Re: What can you wear to a wedding during pregnancy

Say if you are big - around 6-7 months - would you have to wear something under the kameez of the sari?

Re: What can you wear to a wedding during pregnancy

My cousin wore pishwaas/anarkali all througout her pregnancy for her bro's wedding, they're ideal for mums to be.

Re: What can you wear to a wedding during pregnancy

I agree with tigerlily, I would also go for the anarkali type of dress.

Or just a nice shalwaar kameez, not too tight around the tummy/waist/hips. Instead of a shalwaar you can wear a trouser type of capri thing.

Interesting! Good idea!

Any pics would be helpful..

Re: What can you wear to a wedding during pregnancy

a pishwaz/anarkali, i’d say if you’re further along as they’re essentially empire-waists and will probably be more comfortable than a sari, i’d imagine.

if you wear it with capri pants instead of a shalwar, you can use the bella band on it too- friends of mine who are preggo swear by it! they also use it very successfully and comfortably (so i hear) to hold up their unbuttoned, pre-preggo jeans and pants, etc.
ingrid & isabel

if you do a sari, i’d do a solid silk one, material-wise, nothing too sheer or chiffon-y. for whatever reason, people seem to be offended to see the belly even though you’ve got something incredible going on in there! weirdos.

Re: What can you wear to a wedding during pregnancy

Thanks for the detailed answer SGC - much appreciated! I do think pregnant women wearing a sari look really adorable! I cant wait to dress up inshallah when my time comes!

i wore an A-line kameez with pants to my brothers valima. it had 3/4 sleeves because my arms had gotten a little chunky. but i got soooo many compliments. it was made by bunto kazmi. to the mehndi i wore my valima angarka...it was cut a bit bigger so it covered alot. to the wedding i wore an old sharara and a top which i had gotten as an extra during my own wedding. i didn't want to order too many new clothes for my bros wedding so i did the best with what i had. the only new maternity outfit was the bunto kazmi one i wore to the valima. later i got it altered to fit me now and it still looks stunning! if it is a friends wedding you could also wear something of your moms. that is what my SIL did on my sisters wedding.

Re: What can you wear to a wedding during pregnancy

@summerlady, I am sure that you’ll post pics for us greedy GS Bunto fans. Please, please, please.

Ok, saris, anakalis are fine but who is going to wear this maternity dress even if it is by Rohit Bal??!

Re: What can you wear to a wedding during pregnancy

i would say a pishwaz btw bareeze/chinerye has some collection for pregnant ladies

Mahismart - thats quite cute as a wedding dress...

Stylo - i would love to have a look at the collection, but im in UK.

Does anyone know in London who sells gorgeous anarkali dresses. Im asking on behalf of the same friend who has a wedding coming up in July inshallah.

Re: What can you wear to a wedding during pregnancy

i would NOT wear a pishwaz during pregnancy, especially in later months as all the emphasis is on the upper bust since pishwas' are empire waisted... i gained immediately up there and i DID NOT want ppl staring at my boobs... i had a few weddings to attend and pishwaz' are so in these days.. but thats all you would see if i were to wear one.. the huge chest... so i would only wear a pishwaz during pregnancy IF i havent gained a whole lot upstairs.

sunset.. i didnt take any pics unfortunately :( im sorry. but to answer your question.. yes the blouse does sit above the bump.. i usually would tie my sari below my navel like a low rise sari.. but during pregnancy.. i felt better tying it right around my navel.. and then just wrap teh sari around so no skin shows... its possible :) just go for a more solid fabric like banarsi.. no georgette or chiffon :D

i wore a shalwar kameez, sari and a lehnga when i was 6 mos. pregnant with my first one. with the salwar kameez i pinned the jamavar dupatta in a way that covered my belly. as for the saree, i wrapped the pallu around and held it with my hand so that i didn't bear any skin.

Re: What can you wear to a wedding during pregnancy

Thanks Khawateen n Dawn! I guess i will have to help her with the sari...need to go shopping her! What colours do you think bring out out teh radiance of a pregnant woman? I mean do you think black could be worn?

oh yes a good point ... !

Re: What can you wear to a wedding during pregnancy

^I guess it depends on how your body develops my cousin had a big bump and comparatively a small chest so it didn't draw attention to her bust at all, but every pregnancy is different

you're welcome. yes, black tends to make you look slimmer anyway so that would be a good option. i wore baby pink by the way. i'm not sure what the fabric is called but it was kind of gerogettey/chiffony but very thick so it was not see through at all. the blouse was silk.
