Form and discipline kept Younis out - Afridi

I am sorry but this just sounds like Afridi pleasing Ijaz Butt with this statement. The guy who has an average of 50 in tests and playing well in England, (already getting used to the pitches there) is kept out of the test side for…lets see the test capabilities of the following (I cut Salman some slack. )

  1. Imran Farhat
  2. Shoaib Malik
  3. Shahid Afridi
    Plus
  4. Yasir Hameed (Blast from the past)

Shahid Afridi, the Pakistan captain, has said that he wanted former captain Younis Khan in the squad for the tour of England but various issues, such as form and discipline, had prevented the batsman’s selection.

“I wanted Younis to be in the team but, besides the issue of his recent form, there was also a bit of a disciplinary issue with Younis,” Afridi told Geo TV. “One must understand I don’t pick the team alone. The input of the coach and selectors is also involved in this process.”

Younis, whose ban had been overturned by the PCB after an appeal, was not included in Pakistan’s Test or Twenty20 squad for the trip to England. Ijaz Butt, chairman of the board, said last week

that Younis’ return would require clearance from the board, an issue that wasn’t deemed to be an issue at all with Shoaib Malik, Afridi and the Akmal brothers, who had all apologised for their mistakes.

Afridi also said that fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar, who made a comeback in the Asia Cup, would only play limited-over cricket for now. “We don’t want to waste him or damage his remaining career by playing him in Test cricket,” Afridi said.

Although Pakistan made an early exit from the Asia Cup, after beating only Bangladesh, they competed hard against Sri Lanka and India. Afridi’s performances were impressive in the tournament: he scored centuries against Sri Lanka and Bangladesh and took three wickets at an economy-rate of 4.60. “The truth is that in the Twenty20 World Cup, I had taken the pressure of captaincy which affected my individual form as well, but this time I focused on my own performances,” he said.

Afridi will make a return to Test cricket after four years when he leads the team in Pakistan’s ‘home’ series against Australia in England this summer.

Re: Form and discipline kept Younis out - Afridi

Afridi talking about discipline? I see Malik is in-form and had never an issue, Shoaib Akhtar has always been very disciplined, Umar Akmal has always been honest with his injuries. So I guess Afridi is right.

Re: Form and discipline kept Younis out - Afridi

This is utter crap. There has never been a disciplinary issue with Younis Khan. The only issue has been his repeatedly turning down captaincy because of frustration with the PCB setup and player shenanigans. Younis has always played his cricket with utmost integrity.

Yasir Hameed has a reasonable chance of coming good. He's a decent player.

Re: Form and discipline kept Younis out - Afridi

lol @ Afridi ... baghal main churee aur mun main RAM RAM !

word "discipline" from Afridi's mouth is more outrageous than war for peace :)

beside this as kaptaaaan has mentioned it believe Akhtar is at the top of his form and fitness

Yousuf bhai bach gaeey bayizzati sai. Ager retirement wapus lai laitey tu un ko behe asiey hee zaleel hona tha :)

I agree that he might do good and probably sounds the most accomplished of the batsmen this time around, but the why now, why so late and whatever happened to building for the future, etc etc...blah blah PCB diarrhea of the mouth. He probably matured because he is now 32.

The mistake you're making is trying to find logic in PCB's doings.

It could be that Afridi was made to say those things just to take the entire blame and divert the attention from Selection Committee's mishap. Afridi is really good friends with Younis and Yousuf and he knows very well that their absence simply means disaster for Pakistan. I haven't heard a single word from Mohsin Khan and the Manager of the team supporting and explaining the exclusions and additions of certain players.

The coming tour will very tough for Afridi and he better be ready with some good performances and talking points to save his career. Otherwise, he will be the next scape-goat in PCB's up coming mishandling of the team and tour.

Re: Form and discipline kept Younis out - Afridi

He is right about the Form of Younis and if India can site Yuraj outside then why not Younis too ?
About Discipline no comment :snooty:

‘Butt behind Younis’s exclusion’

Friday, June 25, 2010
LAHORE: Pakistan’s chief selector, Mohsin Khan has claimed that the PCB didn’t give clearance to the national selection committee to consider former captain Younis Khan for the Test tour to England.

Explaining the reason behind not picking Younis, a decision that had caused surprise in the cricketing circle, Mohsin said that PCB Chairman Ijaz Butt didn’t give clearance for Younis’s selection.

“Normally if a player is unfit the PCB medical board gives the selection committee clearance for him and if a player has disciplinary issues then the PCB Chairman gives clearance, which we didn’t get in case of Younis,” the former Test opener said.

Mohsin’s statement is likely to cause more bitterness and controversy as the appeals commissioner of the board, Justice (retd) Irfan Qadir had lifted an indefinite ban on Younis Khan.

“The appeals commissioner is due to hear the appeal of allrounder, Rana Naved against his ban and fine later this week,” a source said. Sources also said that Ijaz Butt was unhappy with Younis for the way he had approached the ban issue and for the scathing remarks made by his lawyer against the board and Butt during the hearing process.

^ Iguess Butt sahab was hoping that Younus will do maafi-taalafi like Afridi, malik and Akmals...
