Forgotten son of Lahore

Noted astrophysicist S. Chnadrashekhar, (who later won Nobel prize and NASA sent in space the observatory ‘Chandra’ in their honor) was born in Lahore.

I think Pakistan should release a postal stamp in his honor. It will also help to strenthen its relations with China since he was teacher of Li and Yang who later went to win Nobel prize.

Some more people Pakistan should honor is Sanskrit gramarian Panini and of course Sikh gurus and Ranjeet Singh.

You are very right ZZ, and hopefully one day Lahore will honor all its sons and daughters. Lahore is a different place, and although a non-Lahori may only know about the political unrest and official perturbation together with religious fundamentalistic activities (and perhaps some background of Moghul monuments, etc. and may be something about Lahori cuisine). What a non-Lahori does not know, and has little clue (or some clue) is that what defines a “Lahori”. I attended college in Lahore and now it is my Home.

Just to give you one example, back in early 80s there was a movement to change the names of two local government hospitals (Ganga-Ram and Ghulab Devi) to some Islamic names. Among hundreds of protesters who laid in front of the gates amidst police and fundamentalists (2 set themselves on fire and killed themselves) to protest the changing of the name.

When you say that Lahore should honor its sons and daughters, all you need to do is to go and visit it some day and you will find out for yourself.

However, I do agree with you!
