Foreign players on the county circuit

What’s the policy on foreign players in this year’s County championship?

http://usa.cricinfo.com/db/NEW/LIVE/frames/MCC_SUSSEX_09-12APR2004.html

(a) Has it been upped to 3 or more now?
(b) Has Engerland ‘adopted’ Goodwin after he left Zim cricket?
(c) I know Mushy and Mohd. Akram have been eng residents for a few yrs now, but have they finally become true walaity’s, and playing as sons of Brittania now?

  • as far as i know, the engand and wales cricket board siad only 2 foreign players per county but that rule seems to be a thing of the past lots’ of counties have more than 2overseas players in their teams.

this year in the frizzell county championship, danish kaneria will represent essex after pak-ind series finishes. mushy and moahmmed akram will be representing sussex. yassir arafat will represent scotland in the national league this year. saqi’ and azhar mehmood will represent surrey. razzaq will represent middlesex. shoaib akhtar will represent durham my ome county :dhimpak: for a 2nd year.

so a lot of paki players on the county scene. from a personal point of view if i was loking to improve my game i would go down under and sign for one of the aussie state teams, who r as good as many national sides, for example queensland r a class act, county cricket in england and wales is not very strong so players of shoaib akhtar’s ability for example won’t be tested to the fullest but if they tried playing in oz’ things will be totally different.

Thanks for the info but the reason I asked was becuase I could’ve sworn reading somewhere that Goodwin had signed with Sussex.

Looking further, came across this :

Nothing new there, Pakistani and Aussie players leading the list as always.

With regard to the pak contingent, seamers like Azhar etc. will always do well in english condititons. And I agree with ya- the big boys should sign with the more competitive Ozzie domestic teams. Our bats more so than the bowlers, a season or two on those bouncy castles of a wicket will do their game a world of good.

anyway, from the looks of things, Mohd. Akram seems to be playing as an englandiya now?

Might've finally gotten a maiden to his name there.
