Foreign Grads going back to Pak

salams

i was just talking to one of my classmates from high school in karachi who’s there to get his h-1 stamped and we were just catching up on where everyone is now and what our classfellows r doing…and he was telling me that many of the people who were with us in school and who went abroad [us, uk, can] for school…some of them ivy leaguers and in top us/uk schools, are back in pakistan right now…either working with their parents, or looking for jobs or trying to set up their own businesses and so on…some are still abroad, but a lot are back…

i was somewhat surprised but really happy to hear that…!!!

wonder why there is this impression that a lot of the pakistani grads don’t go back…a lot dont go back but a lot certainly do…i think things r looking good for pakistan inshallah with all these ppl going back :k:

thanks ds :)

irem - thanks for sharing that information above. i think its great that people are actually going back and not just talking about it.
it makes me really happy to know that. thanks.

irem, what you heard was in the past, but now alot of the students are going back, maybe because they know its hard to find a job in the US, maybe because they love their country more, maybe because its easier to find a good job in Pakistan these days, but whatever the case, its good for the country! You are also going back, and if more graduates like you go back, we are destined to have a good and prosperous future!!!

Spock - inshallah :k:

zidee

i know a couple of fresh hbs grads who have came back and are starting/have started fresh entrepreneurial ventures of their own :k:

feels good. we sure do need more of them, don we?

^^ yup :)

I would say mostly its supply and demand. easier for ppl to get jobs back in pakistan so they are bailing back. some examples given were kids who obviously came from loaded families who would return and help run the family business or start some side business which would be part of family business empire.

then there are others who are going back because there are better opportunities in Pakistan than there were a few years back. They have families back home and it makes a good logical sense.

then there are those who really want to go back because they feel that their skills and knowledge will help their country.

I know of someone who went back recently because he was too stressed, is going to go live with his family, buy a place on cash, is getting some teaching job. None of this was due to patriotism, but his logic was his savings plus proceeds from his house's sale here would give him more than enough money to buy a place on a cash basis, and then even he may not be earnign as much, his fixed expenses will be low and he will not have the pressure he had here that if he loses his job what happens to the rest of his life.

so many reasons exist..convenience, logical sense, patriotism

We all have our reasons… mashaAllah its good to see the orb circle back into the country… but I dunno, most people I know here – deep down they all care about how Pakistan fares in the grand scheme of things… true that everyone’s short-term objectives may not allow them to contrbute significantly to the country, but a lot of us want to.

I think that the landscape is changing for the better as more and more of us go back to foster a more supportive environment for those who sincerely do want to go back. Quite a few of us though tend to get disheartened when we think of all the frustrations that one has to endure in their sincere efforts to make a difference, but it has to start somewhere… it all starts with one person… pass it on :-)

I just hope when the time comes for me, which will be soon inshaAllah, there’ll be a contact base I can count on.

Umar Talib - i agree with what u r saying...deep down everyone wants to do good for pak in their own way n cares abt the country...its definitely not true that those who move back necessarily care more or do more for pak...like i know for myself a lot of the reasons r my own personal reasons n personal choices, i'm not gona claim that i am going back just coz i'm so patriotic...but ya inshallah when i'm there i'll try to do as much as i can to 'contribute to pak' coz the patriotism is there, i think in all of us....infact sometimes expats can do more for pak from abroad than they can in pak prolly..i've seen ppl who've lived out of pak for decades n not even visited once but have a deep love for the country...
abt the contact base, it definitely helps...i guess just keep in touch with ur college friends and high school ppl etc...i dont know too many ppl actually, only know some..i guess i'll meet more when i go back inshallah....baaki dekha jayay ga ja k what the scene is like... :)

Fraudz - i agree with u many reasons exist...its prolly a combination of most of the reasons u mentioned for myself too... :-)
v r lucky tho to have a homeland where we can just head back whenever we want :) alhamdulilah...Allah Pakistan ko salamat rakhay...

i want to go back to pakistan ebcause i miss the place... lakin now i am not so sure because my family is here and so is my home...... i would liek to help pakistan specially the poor and needy ppl.

waleed :) u always miss what u r away from...when i'm in amreeka i miss pakistan....when i'm in pakistan in karachi, i miss my grandparents n relatives in rawalpindi, in rawalpindi i miss my family n friends in karachi...
i've never missed amreeka per se when in pak like how i miss pak when i'm here, but i did miss my friends and the student life here...
my resolution now is to try to stop missing whats not there and focus on the present :D lets see how it goes hehehe
uk where u live is a great place, there's so many desis there, its like a mini pak, u r lucky to be living there :) pakistan is also not that far, u can always visit when u want...

hehe i know wat u mean.

i live in a white area i have one pakistani friend  and i think south hall sitnks :stuck_out_tongue: and thank god there r no uncles or anties to spy on us where we live

degas bhai, youre a mechanical engineer right?

I have some job leads, but they are for fresh graduates straight out of college, from what I can gather, you are very experienced, so those positions may not be sufficient for a man of your experience.

opportunities are only the starting point, but then having a workplace which aligns with your personality and the way you like to work is important too.

getting in or ability to find a good job is one point, ability to advance in your career based on your own skills is another issue.

Lets see how the workplace in Pakistan evolves.
