**Foreign accent syndrome (FAS) is a rare and acquired speech disorder.
In many cases, it is caused by a stroke. Damage to the brain affects the rhythm and melody of speech. If you have FAS, you adopt what sounds like a foreign accent, even though you may never have traveled to that particular country.Symptoms can last for months or years.
Do you know anyone who suffers from this or suspect that they may ? **
Sheyn, this syndrome is all too common here in Pakistan. Somehow people who have never been to or seen the US start talking in American accents. It’s even when funnier when it happens with British accents, one summer holiday in the UK and bam there it is. I’m sorry I know shouldn’t be making fun of the afflicted.
