forbidden plants

What some of plants mentioned in Quran as forbidden and why are they forbidden? I know it is a wild ugly plant but what are some specific reasons?

Last night, I was watching food network and one of the shows they were harvesting cactus and making a cactus salad. When my mom saw it was, she was like astagfirfullah…lol..Then she told me it is one of the forbidden plants mentioned in Quran. Anyhow, what some other plants mentioned in Quran as forbidden?

Cactus fruit is sooooooooooooooooooo good , and actually my arab friends introduce it to me . I think its as good as mango . Totally awesome and sweet . :yummy:

Btw you have to be very careful to handle it . So many thorns on it .

Re: forbidden plants

cactus fruit is diff thing.... hareem as in eating.

Ps. I don't know the ayat, that is why I am asking.

Re: forbidden plants

errrmmm I don't know about cactus (I don't think it's edible anyway/it's a thorny plant) but as long as you're not going high on some intoxicant plants(magic mushrooms/bhang/etc) they should be okay to harvest and plant.

Re: forbidden plants

Peace All

There is a reference for the "fruit of a forbidden tree" but this is in the heavenly garden.

To eat intoxicating plants is haram, if done for recreation

Undaplant....Yay!!!! Bhindi....Nay!!!!

Turnips (shaljum)..............NAAAAAAAAAAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Those things should be outlawed!

Re: forbidden plants

I took a class on the Fiqh of Food, and the teacher said that regarding that which grows from the ground, ie vegetation, everything is permissible except for something that is harmful or dangerous, like if it will poison you or intoxicate you. Will the cactus fruit do that?

If someone told you that cactus is specifically mentioned as being not permissible, then you should ask them to bring the evidence to show that it is. People shouldnt just go around saying "this is haram, that is haram" without any proof

Is cannabis forbidden :smokin2: ?

So for medicinal purpose it is OK , a doctors note will be accepted on the day of judgment ? :D

No if you will have a doctors note on the day of judgment . So make sure you ask your folks to send it with you when you leave this world.

Strange as it sounds, but Hanafi fiqh are most relaxed about use of alcohol in perfumes and medicines. Just an example:
