THU MARCH 25TH @ 9 P.M. PBS FRONTLINE WORLD “ON RAZOR’S EDGE”
REPORTER: Sharmeen Obaid from Pakistan

The voices of opposition and dissent are closing in on General Pervez
Musharraf, the embattled president of Pakistan. He rescued Pakistan from the brink of political collapse, only to find himself threatened by a rising tide of opposition from both Islamic fundamentalist groups and liberal political parties, who view his military rule as a betrayal of the nation.
While fending off these dissenting factions, Musharraf also must struggle to balance a hefty load of explosive issues. His historic peace accord with India has averted the threat of nuclear war, but it ignited the ire of
radical Pakistani groups who lay claim to Kashmir. He is cooperating with the international community to dismantle the nuclear weapons black market, but having to confront emerging revelations about Pakistan’s central role in the growing nuclear scandal. PBS FRONTLINE/World reporter and producer

Sharmeen Obaid journeyed across her native Pakistan in early 2004, talking with people on the ground about the president’s predicament. Her story illuminates the complexities and contradictions playing out inside Pakistan and the razor’s edge on which its president is now walking…

Did anyone actually watch this show ? If so, what did you all think of it ?

Any feedback would be great.

Yeah I saw it. The lady portrays herself as all freaked out at how much anti-Americanism there is in Pakistan and fears for Musharraf's like cuz he is balancing all these interests (which is true). She talks to a Kashmiri who rants about the killings in Kashmir and how he will fight to the death. She muses over how there can be peace if people think this way. I think people will eventually accept whatever solution is made as long as it's approaching fairness. Decent documentary.

The Documentary was OK..Most of her time was spent going around seeking public opinion on certain issues, and a few sound bites from key people..Sami-ul-HaQ and so on..

I saw it, I missed the first 10 mins of it I didn't like it that much, she went around interviewing people that hardly passed matric, plus, those guys were not any older than 20(the ones on the streets). she should have approached at least the working class or people who actually knew what was going on. She showed this anti-american image of Pakistan.

I'll write more on the issue when i get home from work.

but I think that kidnapping bride in kyrgyzstan was horrible..

yeah the kidnapping thing was deeply unsettling.

^^ you know the funniest part of the documentary was that I was watching it with my american friends and first thing they said was damn h... you guys have nice cars in Pakistan. there were some in the bak ground when she was interviewing ppl on the street

haha yeah the charade is right up there with the best of them and especially that suzuki that's open on the back and people's kids fall out :)
