I made a thread about how Karachi was ranked as the worlds worst city to live in, as ranked by the Economist, backed by a working URL as per forum rules. Now some people jumped in and since they cant really do anything to dispute the credibility of the economist, started hurling abuses and started questioning my intentions of making the thread, and made a mess of the thread. Now the moderator for some reason instead of removing those comments removed the thread. Also, this is the comment he made on another thread here on the feedback/complaint forum.
i) What kind of people are you appointing as moderators, seriously? I can understand people who lack the ability to make coherent sentences being made moderators, but making outright personal attacks, calling people morons, losers just like that? I do expect action to be taken against this moderator. Lack of intellect probably explains why he/she thinks the economist is on some agenda to ‘defame’ Karachi by publishing a ranking. And to top it all, he thinks that survey represents my personal prejudiced facts, as if I carried out the survey for the economist.
ii) I want my OP restored. There was nothing wrong with the topic and the thread itself, and anyone who has a problem with it, has to deal with facts, rather than crying about someone who reported the news pretending all’s good. Also, this attitude of 'only residents of karachi can talk about Karachi, which is reminiscent of a mafia shouldnt be allowed ironically by proud residents themselves dont live in Karachi anymore, and Karachi isnt their personal jagir to begin with.
Thread was in wrong forum. Karachi forum is in Travel and Tourism forum. That thread had very little to do with Travel.
2.Even if the start of the thread was OK, that thread turned into MQM bashing, and many posters were assuming that who ever is now trying to protect Karachi is protecting MQM.
Posters who live in Karachi and love that city and dont give a damn about the CREDIBILTY OF ECONOMIST, raised protest through PMs and feedback and the concern was geniune. Many CREDIBLE western magaizines reported Islam as the religion of Terrorist. I wonder if you will be sensitive towards your fellow muslims before touting the Credible report of such publications or you will post the articles and will start bashing mulims based on the crediblty of those article.

Thread start was alright, so move it back and delete the rest. How conveniently you forgot someone who I know is a die hard MQM supporter and started taking a crap before everything else. Protect karachi? WTH dude, if you wanna protect it, start acknolwedging the problems and do something about it right than dismissing or hiding such news.

So posters who dont live there have no right to talk about it? Many news items posted here on GS will be deemed 'sour' by many people, does that mean we stop posting them here? Why dont you just stop people from starting threads altogether, start your own threads and let them discuss what you or the residents of Karachi deem is suited to discuss then?

Dude, I am disappointed, you are talking on the lines of the mod who has shown very little intellect here. We are talking about a scientific survey conducted by a major source, and unless you can show me how they serve an agenda by doing so, I suggest you admit you are indulging in favoritism just because you cant see your city's name being ranked poorly, which is quite unbecoming of an admin IMO, or someone who I used to think was rational and fair.
Lastly, what about the moderator's insult. Atleast take action against him for that insult, or ask him to apologize in public.
I love Karachi, and I admit that its a crappy place to live. Economist is dead on.

Thanks for bringing this to attention, another member had also raised a similar issue prior to this thread and it was being looked into already.
I am sure the intent was not negative, but rather a misunderstanding took place coupled with off-topic/irrelevant posts that followed (As br. TLK has already mentioned). Lets clear the air, and move forward. Constructive criticism never hurts anyone, and infact can be a good thing.
Sometimes our choice of words can make a well-intended remark seem snide, or derogatory. So that maybe something to consider.
Nonetheless, we will continue to look at the issue, including remarks made by team members. If you should have any more questions, and/or concerns please don't hesitate to reach out to one of the team members, and we'll be sure to respond and resolve the matter in a timely manner.

The Economist was **dead wrong **because of many reasons (not going to discuss here) and the thread was closed/deleted for the right reason. Thanks to the moderators.
I love Karachi, and I admit that its a crappy place to live. Economist is dead on.
Thank you, at least some people arent in denial. I dont know what kind of people deny things that are so plausible and outright, but they dont sound too 'intelligent' to begin with.

Thanks but with all due respect I don't expect anything to come out of this. Next time before creating a thread, I think I should just PM TLK its contents and title and ask for his grand 'approval' whether his personal opinion allows such a thread to be here, or whether he or the 'owners' and jagirdaars of Karachi like it or not.
But then again, I am not going to do that, so no worries, might as well post on some political discussion forum instead. There's way too many examples of selective moderating that I have pointed out and enough is enough.
As for the mod making an insult, I have yet to see an apology, but alteast you acknowledged that happened, and kudos for that.
