News: China Confirms Six Die in Clashes

BEIJING-- China confirmed Saturday that six people were killed and 32 injured in a violent confrontation this month between Muslims and police in eastern China.
The clashes were among the most serious involving China’s Muslim Hui ethnic minority in recent years.

The report also did not say what sparked the clashes, but a human rights group had said paramilitary police fired on Muslims who were protesting after a pig’s head was hung outside amosque. Xinhua described the clashes as an accident that violated official policies toward ethnic minorities and “hurt Hui people’s feelings.”

According to most independent accounts, there is substantial resentment among Uighurs toward the steadily growing Han immigrant population. While some senior government posts are allocated to Uighurs, the real administrative and political power resides in the parallel organizational hierarchy of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP or Party), whose leading officials at all levels (except at the grassroots level in certain areas) are overwhelmingly Han Chinese. **Thinly-veiled institutionalized discrimination against Uighurs and other Muslim groups is present in the educational system, where ethnic minority children attend their own schools and colleges but where the language of instruction at higher levels is Chinese, and where nighttime patrols are carried out in student dormitories to check that no prayers or other manifestation of religious worship are going on. Discrimination is also present in the administrative and business employment sector, in which the “distinctive” religious, dietary, and linguistic characteristics of Muslims are used as a pretext to deny them access to positions of responsibility on the grounds that the employing unit is “inadequately equipped” to meet their special needs. **

Throughout the region, government controls on religious worship provide perhaps the most intense focus for Uighur anger and resentment. **During the Cultural Revolution (1966-76), as part of the ultra-leftist Maoist policies that viewed inter-ethnic relations under socialism as consisting mainly of antagonistic relations between different “social classes,” Islamic and other forms of religious worship were effectively outlawed as “bourgeois” in nature; mosques throughout Xinjiang were closed; Muslim clerics were widely persecuted and jailed; Uighur families were forced to rear pigs in violation of religious prohibitions; and many mosques reportedly were used as pork warehouses. **Under the more liberal central government policies inaugurated by Deng and Hu Yaobang in 1978, mosques reopened across the region and, for most of the 1980s, freedom of religion was afforded greater official protection in Xinjiang than at any time since 1949. Since the early 1990s, however, the growing strength of the Islamic cultural and religious movement in Xinjiang, combined with the politically centrifugal effects of the breakup of Soviet power in Central Asia, led the central government once again to impose increasingly tight restrictions on religious worship and practice in the region.

Police intervened at about 7pm on Friday 3rd February after a group of
Tibetans in Lhasa smashed up a restaurant run by Hui (Chinese Muslims) in
the Barkor, the Tibetan quarter of the city. The Tibetans apparently
claimed that they had been served human flesh, a contention that recurs
regularly in different areas of Tibet and could have been used as an
excuse for the incident.

Li Guozhu, 48, appears to have been detained this time because of his research into the violence in Henan. In early November, Li spent two days in Zhongmou county in Henan province, an area placed under martial law after violent clashes between Han Chinese and Hui Muslim communities. After he investigated the conflicts and offered assistance to victims, Li sent copies of his interviews with residents along with photographs of restaurants damaged in the riots to foreign journalists.

China’s “Terrorists”

China’s government has identified the Uigurs as terrorists; unlike the Hui, the second-largest Muslim ethnic group is a Turkic people with its own culture and language.

Severe human-rights violations are causing a constant rise in tensions between the minorities, the security forces and the Han Chinese immigrants.
The more desperately the minorities struggle for survival, the greater the likelihood of terrorist acts. However, most of the minorities have so far rejected terrorist violence as a means of resistance.

Tell me where and when has China ever professed to be a Religious state and when did it ever state that they support/are friends to Pakistan because it is a Muslim state. Nowhere. So this entire argument seems rather out of context,

Firstly who has stated China was a muslim ally. Pakistan is its ally. It is a geo-political strategy based on mutual interests and basic risks of the region. Secondly this concept of muslim unity is dead in the water. Esp considering the fact that Egypt and Iran are constantly attempting to gain an edge over Pakistan, politically, militarily, economically and socially.

Muslims today are backwards. Look at Iraq, idiots killing their own countrymen. The Palestinians are the same. Pakistan is full of sectarian bloodshed. Muslim nations have bloody borders. Creating a Muslim state today in the current state of affairs will not progress and Muslim interests.
