I was with a friend, who wasn't fasting (for a good reason) but they were being very selfish and just rude about it, like kept eating and eating while saying "i dont care, I'm hungry." It was only an hour til iftari, of course i was starving/thirsty and I thought it was VERY rude to do that. They pointed out what should I do when i c others eating and I replied that it's not the same, if strangers how dont know me are eating, how is that their fault? But when someone is purposely eating in front of you just to annoy you, its more a matter of consideration and selfishness than just eating. It doesn't make me angry, it just makes the other person look like a total ass. That's all.
What say you all?

I didn't fast this year (for good reason), and it is hard because I've always valued fasting and the holy month. But when I need to take a drink, I take it - I am very considerate of my flatmate who is fasting, but the other day I thought I was going to pass out if I didnt drink something, and apologised to her, and downed a bottle of water in front of her - it was an hour til iftaari. I felt bad, but I did say sorry.

I used to harass my brothers when i didn't fast, but that was a while back. I remeber trying to make them smell the food so they would be tempted...hehehehe.
But no I am consciou snow, at least i try to be. Luckily at work, the amreekan folks are very considerate, and my neighbor wont eat at her desk these days becuz once she had fries and I told her how good its smelling...hehe

I just had a piece of cheese cake with a refreshing cup of coffee… MMmMMm MMmmmmM yum. You guys should seriously try it…after iftar perhaps. till then i am gonna go ahead and eat away at my cheese cake

Never eat in front of another muslim. Eating privately is actually the best option. People are very aware that its Ramadan, and they expect you to be fasting, even if they're not muslim. I had to tell a kid that I wasn't fasting when he asked me why I was eating, and then I had to proceed to tell him that I was on my period. He was pretty horrified when he thought I was being a bad muslim. Its really odd. Non-muslims in America really respect this month when they learn about it, and they find it bewildering that you wouldn't be participating in it, even though they're not muslim to begin with! (not everyone of course)
Definitely should not eat in front of another muslim.

I dont not eat cos someone else is fasting. If its a close mate, I'll ask, but otherwise I'm getting on with the task.

That's kinda what I do, IF i am in a place that nobody would know me, i.e.. subway, then I dont feel guilty. I try not to in college. Its not about temptation, but rather respect for somenoe you know very well who IS fasting.

i too was of the "cant be bothered" mentality. But Alhamdulilah i managed to keep them all this year..sure i want to drink something ( and in previous years i have)...
Anyway its your own business. Hope you can keep them next time...(if your a muslim that is).

That's shocking behavior! The entire month my non-Muslim coworkers have been so considerate. I had to tell them they didn't need to leave the office if they wanted to snack in there.
