For those of you doing registries...

For those of you doing registries,

  1. Where are you registering? What are the hottest places these days?

I registered at Macys, but it was after my wedding, when my mom’s friends demanded a registry.

I see lots of CratenBarrell, William Sonoma, BedBathAndBeyond, Target, Macys, etc

Amazon does a registry now, which might be a great way to consolidate, as long as you get to check out the stuff somewhere in person.

  1. And while your at it, what are the items you DEFINITELY want on your registry?

Re: For those of you doing registries...

Do a lot of desi couples do registries now? I'd love to do one for my wedding, but no one in my circle has ever done one (we usually just do cash gifts) so I don't want to appear pretentious. What type of price range do you normally stick around when putting stuff on your registry?

Re: For those of you doing registries...

I once asked a question about registries infront of my family, they acted as if someone died! Clearly won't be having one of those lol

Re: For those of you doing registries...

what are registries?

Re: For those of you doing registries...

^ It's a custom here in the West for gift-giving. The couple selects items at a store (or a few stores) that they would like to begin their new life together. If people ask what they need, they can be directed to the registry.

It helps gift-givers pick items that the couple needs/likes, you can avoid duplicates that way, and you can get a sense of the couple's style.

Re: For those of you doing registries...

The key is to have a variety of prices available, so that people can give as much as they are comfortable giving. People will put things that are $5-$300. And people can get whatever they wish, and however many items they wish.

Re: For those of you doing registries...

we were thinking of doing this, but the groom lives in a different state for work and is originally from a different country, so we thought it would be impractical to have gifts shipped to my home or wherever.. (too expensive/hassle!)

Anyways, I would get simple essentials for your home.. kitchenware and small furnishing bits. I'd be afraid to ask for too many big things like sofa sets or my guests would think i'm gold digging! lol but i may be totally off, it's totally up to you! sounds kinda fun picking out your gifts actually lol :)

Re: For those of you doing registries...

^ You can pick where to have the shipped. Why not have them shipped to your new home?
