…did you wear on your mayoun, mehndi, baraat and valima?
Like garland/flower on mayoun/mehndi, heirloom on baraat and a simple set on valima. List things like bangels/rings/bracelets/anklets/necklaces/earrings as well. I’m really curious as to how people went about it.
I’m not married but either way I plan on going subtle on the jewellery bit. On my:
• Mayoun= I’d wear white flowered jewellery
• Mehndi= a bindiya and a pearly/jeweled-up piranda
• Baraat= moms jhoomar and bindya (as you can tell, I LOVE anything heirloom), my nani’s ring, a nice polki statement necklace/earrings. Maybe another ring and my mom will give bangles and whatnot.
• valima= a simple set, bindi (no jhoomar, although I LOVE them) and some bracelets and rings.
Mehndi - metal churiyan on both hands and a (fake) set that my inlaws got. it had a tikka but i didn't wear it. I think i also wore the ring I got on my engagement.....i remember wanting to waer my own jewelery that would've looked nicer but my mom was ready to throw daggers at me. :D
baraat-- double-necklace set (i.e., a smaller choker and a bigger wider necklace), jhumkay earrings... nath...tikka..jhumar..pajangla + gold karra on one hand, kaanch ki churiyan + 4 rings (artificial + gold) on the other hand.
valima-- two gold necklaces, a rani haar, earrings and jhumar that matched the rani haar...gold tikka...6 gold churiyan + 2 karay + a pajangla on one hand, rings and colored churiyan on the other hand....oh and a little sticker in lieu of a nosepin :)
Ok i know that sounds wayyyyy OTT but at hte time I loved wearnig lots of jewelery....now I'm much more minimalist (well by those standards). but it looked nice :)
I'm curious as to how people go about it aaj kal. Do people do the stacks of gold bangles? They're really popular in my family. And heirloom jewelerry is NOT. -_- but you guys gave good ideas of somewhat common trends and whatnot.
Please keep adding, what about the ladies who are going to be married soon?
God, y do ppl ask such questions which have longggggggggggg answers
okies, on my mayoun my in laws brought flower bangles, and gala haar’s and the ladies put a bulk lot of chooriyaan on my hands covering the whole arm, then one lady put flowers on my head too
i was looking like a sitting stall of daisy
then baraat there was nothing, the usual wedding jewelery i was wearing
walima was the same… usual wedding stuff
on mehendi i was a to z simple… no jewelery no flowers
I wore the usual jewelry...tried to wear more of my mum's and dadi's jewelry than my own.... I love heritage pieces as well .... makes it so much more special.
I remember that on my mehndi I wore motia tikka, earrings, and chooris ... only to see my SIL highly disappointed because they had gotten yellow flower jewelry made especially for me. So very quickly and discreetly I took off my earrings and chooris and put them to a side so that my in-laws could pehnao me their jewelry ... :)
now that i think of it...i did the whole somethign new, old, borrowed and blue on my mehndi..lol.
i wore:
-new: my khalu gifted me a necklace on behalf of my khala who passed away the year before.
-old: my mom gave me her earrings to keep (i've always loved them and wanted them for the longest time..lol)
- borrowed: my nani's plain black paranda (i had stuck flowers along the braid)
- blue: well my mehndi suit was somewhat blue..like a sea green/bluish colour.
as for floral jewellery...i got earrings, the haar/necklace, the bracelets and a tikka/matta pathi type thing that my bengali SIL had no idea how to put it on and it ended up looking like a crown on my head..ha ha..i. wanted to take it off because it looked odd, but my phuppo said to just leave it - my inlaws might get offended. lol. so i kept it on, and when they had left and it was only family, i took it off.
