I am not sure how dangerous it is and initially I was very scared that we may roll on the baby but I have done this with both my children and have had no problem Alhamdulillah.
I find it to be convenient for me. I work and this way I do not have to get up, pick the baby up from the crib, feed the baby and put back in the crib.
But this is what has worked for me so I can only talk about my personal experience.
Also after having kids for some reason I do not have a very deep sleep anymore and we have a king size bed so we have more space.
