Um…no. Its archaic…not respectful. Its old desi ignorant culture…not Islam.
Why is it considered asking out automatically if a guy simply aproaches a girl he is interested in? Why is that asking out? It can simply be that he wants to make sure she even likes him or he even likes her personality before getting his mama, chacha, taya and all of the village involved?
What if the girl doesnt like him? What if he is different and not appealing in the conventional sort of way? Imagine the amount of rishtas he would be getting rejections from! To be quite honest, its just a way for girls to boost their self-esteem by rejecting perfectly capable men based on superficial criteria. Its selfish to expect him to put himself out there like that without even giving him a clue as to whether the girl likes him or not. Its not fair to him and his family.
In this day and age to expect guy and girl to NOT speak to each other or have some sort of chemistry is ludicrous. Islam gives us permission to speak, talk and more. If we choose to ignore that, then we’re actually rejecting what Islam is and making what people call our own deR eent ki masjid. Where does it say in Islam to marry someone blindly?
