For Custom Titles and Avatars

Dear Members:

Please note, that from now onwards, you should send your requests for Custom Title and Avatar using the GUPSHUP Private Message System. This will avoid all problems with emails not being received. The Private Message should be sent to me, Mr Custom

If you are applying for a custom avatar, please upload it on GUPSHUP server using Image Gallery, or you can hot-link it from an external website (Please do so for GIF files). In your Private Message, please just provide the Custom Title and/or Custom Avatar (with IMG codes). Thats all.

The same rules for avatars will be used as before. Please only apply when you have a minimum 1,000 posts, and the avatar should not be more than 50x50 pixels. Heavy animation will also not be approved.

All those members who had applied for custom titles/avatars and have not received them so far, should please apply again using the PM, as explained above.

Here are all the previous announcements for your information. For those with a keen interest in history and fair bit of time on their hands, here you go.

And images can only be .gif or jpg format. Clipart images, or any other format cannot be accepted, so please ensure the right format before sending your request over.

I hate refusing, so work with me. If your image is beyond a reasonable range, it will be resized, and I will NOT be responsible for loss in quality. So if you wish to ensure the quality of your avatar, then make sure its the right size before submitting it. And just as a point of information, I will be gradually resizing all current and previous oversized avatars, to ensure uniformity. No exceptions whatsoever.

I might make exceptions for antique members with less than 1,000 posts. Now this decision is to be made at my discretion, and theres no specific formula for it. In other words, I might approve a member registered in 2000 with 55 posts, and might deny a member registered in 1998, with 200 posts. So, don't go out complaining about others' avatars, focus on yourself.

Dont try to make a case for yourself. In other words, quit with the long fancy messages. I got no time to read 'em. Simply make your submission and wait.

And please, no undoable requests. I hate refusing. It hurts me more than it hurts you.

  1. I do not wish to impose a strict limit on the size of a custom title, but lets just say, keep it short, and limited to 3-4 short words.

  2. Don't gossip with me in your emails. Dont write anything in your mails that requires a response. I wont respond.

  3. I do not wish to ban animations from avatars. So work with me. Keep your animations to a bare minimum, if at all needed.

  4. If you dont see your request fulfilled for 3 days, then your submission was refused. Its for you to figure out why it was refused, since the guidelines are fairly clear.

Do not PM or email the Admin or any mod with any custom requests. All such requests to any source other than me will be discarded without consideration.

Please be entirely sure of your choice before submitting your request. Once your request is received and processed, no further requests for alterations will be entertained, except for spelling errors.

Please keep the size of your custom titles short and to the point.

Avoid animations in your avatars, and keep the size strictly restricted to 50x50 pixels. If the size is beyond that, it will be reduced to 50x50, and we will not be responsible for loss of quality. So make sure your request is approvable before submitting it.

And yes, you still need 1000 posts to qualify. So keep that in mind, and dont submit requests that will be refused.

Some of you are still filling out the complete template in your PM while submitting the avatar and title, including the nick, # of posts etc. When emailing was the way, that information was useful.

Now, when you send a PM, your username and number of posts are already visible. So save some key strokes.. and just send the title and avatar.

Update: February 20, 2003

As most of you may have noticed, I am aggressively reducing the sizes of some of the over-sized avatars. This is an on-going effort. Some are already taken care of, for some I have sent PM's to the members and some are yet to be noticed (but they will be, sooner or later). Huge avatars distract the readers from the discussion and gupshup.

Originally we had set a limit to 50x50 pixels. That should still be followed. For some cases, I may make an exception and allow maximum of 55x55 (but this will be rare) and should not be taken for-granted. Avatars smaller than 50x50 will be permitted.

So, in case you have a big avatar which has so far not been reduced, please take this notice seriously and send your resized avatar yourself, as soon as possible. If you don't, then I will do it for you with possible loss in quality and sharpness.

As always, I will not be approving any excessive animation. If I did approve previously, these will be removed as part of this muhim.

Update: March 3, 2003

No member should send avatars on behalf of other members. Such requests will be instantly discarded. Only the member himself/herself can request for the avatar. If you are helping another member, send the URL to that member and he/she should send it to Mr Custom directly. Its not that complicated.

In one case, we got two different avatars submitted for the same nick by two different persons. Both PM's were received within one hour of each other. This is a sure-shot way of delaying your custom avatar.

Update: January 14, 2004

Mr Custom is back with a few reminders:

  1. ALL avatars should be 50 x 50 pixels in size. Please do the resizing yourself or get a friend to help you (but send in the request yourself). Remember: if it's not 50 x 50, I can't help you.

  2. Please keep your posts short and to the point. I lose interest after the third line if you haven't stated your request already.

  3. I'm going to give a preference to new Avatars and Custom Title requests over changes in existing ones. If you are still waiting on a Custom Avatar and/or Title change, that's the reason for the delay/rejection.

  4. If you've sent in requests and several reminders but still haven't heard from me or your Custom Title was approved but the Avatar wasn't, Take a Hint!

I don't enjoy rejecting your requests so please make my work easier by sticking to the guidelines.

A couple of additional points that will help me (and thus help you get your custom stuff quickly).

  1. If you want your custom title in color(s), please try to send me the html code rather than BB code. That will make my life easier. For example send as rather than . If you don't know html code, then don't worry. I will do it for you.

  2. For avatars, if at all possible, try to send me a link at an external server. If you load it to GS, then I have to carve out the "gupshup" logo at the bottom.
