Now Brazil is surely to win against a weak attack like Germany, they need to take more chances when they have the ball instead of having a passing game.
They dissappointed me when they played United States, they were completely dominated by American strikers and they did quite better against Korea.
I’m still supporting Germany all the way.

Why whats wrong with Turks? On this board I have heard soo many people dissing all sorts of different types of People and I mean Muslim people, whether it is Afghans/Persains and Arabs, whats up with thatt? Those who say Arabs are arrogant and stuck up and so are the Persains just look at yourself. What makes you better?

And we (muslims) blame others for our problems, we can never get along just look at us.

Turkey still has a chance, Insha'Allah, to make it to the top third position. If you are close to eastern Atlantic North America I think it's 9.30 am, 6.30 am for those on the west coast. For those in Canada, sadly TSN is not showing this match live (it will show a replay later in the evening); CBC's providing a live broadcast.

TSN.. CBC.. same thing

Same commentary in the match via BBC.

Btw.. CBC Radio 1 (I think it’s radio one), will show live commentary for those busy on the day.

Go Turkey!

S.Korea and Turkey treat play-off seriously

by Jason Neely

KYONGJU, South Korea (Reuters) - There will be no letting up by feisty World Cup hosts South Korea as they battle Turkey on Saturday for third place and bragging rights as the most successful outsiders at a tournament full of surprises.

With millions of Red Devil supporters expected to fill the streets one last time, coach Guus Hiddink's side hope to cap their historic run with a win over a Turkey side armed with similar speed and grit.

Turkey knocked out co-hosts Japan 1-0 in the second round, offering further incentive for South Korea, who have emerged as Asia's best side in history.

South Korea ended a 48-year winless streak that lasted through five previous finals to beat Poland, Portugal, Italy and Spain with pacy, physical football.

Hiddink's former Netherlands team were lacklustre in a 2-1 loss to Croatia in the third place match at the finals in 1998 but he said South Korea would not disappoint.

"I take this third place very seriously...it will be a very tough game but I think there's a lot of prestige for third place," he told reporters after a training session on Thursday.

The only coach to take two teams to the penultimate World Cup match, Hiddink said South Korea owed it to their ardent Red Devil supporters.

"We were supported so nicely in this tournament that we feel obliged to go more than 100 percent for third place," he said.

STUNNED CHAMPIONS

They are up against a Turkish team that has made the most of their first finals appearance in 48 years.

Turkey emerged from the group stage with just one win but added two more against Japan and Senegal, the team that stunned reigning champions France 1-0 in the tournament's opening match.

"I'm not going to change the style of the Korean team which (has) made it famous in the world," Hiddink said.

"It will be a 50-50 game because they (Turkey) have the same style, they like to attack as well, they have technically skilled players." Hiddink is expected to start Ahn Jung-hwan ahead of veteran striker Hwang Sun-hong who is nursing an injured thigh.

Ahn has scored twice in the finals including heading home a golden goal to dispatch three-time champions Italy.

A shuffle in defence is also possible if Choi Jin-cheul cannot shake off an ankle injury from Tuesday's 1-0 loss to Germany, with versatile midfielder Song Chong-gug a possible replacement.

Turkey striker Ilhan Mansiz said the two sides know each other well after sharing to a scoreless draw in March.

"It will be a fun match. We drew with them in a one-off (friendly) game so we know their strengths and weaknesses," he said.

Coach Senol Gunes will be looking to Ilhan to lead the attack as veteran Hakan Sukur has lacked form in these finals and Hasan Sas will sit out having received a yellow card in the 89th minute of Turkey's 1-0 loss to Brazil on Wednesday.

Like Hiddink for South Korea, Gunes has created the most successful Turkey side in history while championing young talent such as 21-year-old midfielder Emre Belozoglu.

Both coaches are expected to consider younger players on Saturday as Hiddink did against Germany, when he gave starts on the front line to 20-year-old Lee Chun-soo and 21-year-old Cha Du-ri.

Gunes and Turkey's young players after the World Cup will aim at ensuring qualification for their third successive European Championship, set for 2004 in Portugal.

It will be Hiddink's swansong as his contract ends with Saturday's match.

Probable teams:

South Korea (3-4-3): 1-Lee Woon-jae; 4-Choi Jin-cheul, 20-Hong Myung-bo, 7-Kim Tae-young; 21-Park Ji-sung, 22-Song Chong-gug, 6-Yoo Sang-chul, 10-Lee Young-pyo; 16-Cha Doo-ri, 19-Ahn Jung-hwan, 14-Lee Chun-soo

Turkey (4-4-2): 1-Rustu Recber; 4-Fatih Akyel, 5-Alpay Ozalan, 2-Emre Asik, 22-Umit Davala; 10-Yildiray Basturk, 8-Tugay Kerimoglu, 21-Emre Belozoglu, 9-Hakan Sukur; 17-Ilhan Mansiz, 6-Arif Erdem

Referee: Saad Mane (Kuwait)

Linesmen: Ali Al Traifi (Saudi Arabia)

hmm this has to be a record... barely 15 seconds in to the match and Turkey scores a goal Masha'Allah.

The TV was saying that the first goal by Turkey was the fastest in the history of the tournament - 11 seconds.

Is that true?

[This message has been edited by ehsan (edited June 29, 2002).]

that’s what I heard on TV as well. The BBC South Korea vs. Turkey live update website states the goal represents the “fastest ever World Cup goal.”

Well... I m the only Brazilian here....

So, i suppose i should be modest in my comentary... But, guys, i love soccer! i love see the streets all green n yellow these days... i m not patriotic, but i love see my people happy...

I loved watching turkey game... all these wonderful guys... it was a good game, i even thought Turkey could win... But, guys, Brazilians know to samba, to dance...

And, yes, i hope the final be great... for Brazilian team

Sad very sad indeed a great Team like South Korea couldn’t win this game. They played far better than the Turks in my opinion and had lots and lots of chance but failed to score

Not the first time that injustice succeeded over fighting spirit and offensive play.

Well played South Korea

Turkey 3 Korea 2

Turkey won, Congratulations to Turkey, a great tournament for them. Korea also had a wonderful tournament.

Come on Turkey played a great match. I really wanted them to win the cup, Brazil could'nt score only 1 against them.

I really don't care who wins against Germany and Brazil. Brazil to me has over stayed their welcome so I wish Germany wins.

I wanted France to beat Brazil sooooo damn bad in 98 and they did, thank God.

CONGRATS TO TURKEY!
Good to see Sukur getting the record, after a bad World Cup for him.

Darn.. only 5 hours remaining till kick off.. and i can’t sleep!!

http://www3.pak.org/gupshup/smilies/biggrin.gif

I can not wait!
Only 5 hours.
Any predictions?
I think even though Brazil is favirote, Germany is a totally different team when it comes to a World Cup final, they can be as dangerous as any team out there.
People are counting out Germany because most of their matches have been low scoring games and people think that team is better if they score more.
The main strategy for Germany in this whole tournament has been to strike first then play a defensive game, thats why they have only given one goal in this tournament.
They did similar with USA, and Korea, they struck first with the goal and let the opposition dominate the rest of the game but I somehow think that will not work against Brazil, because they have a really attacking forwards, so I pick Brazil to win, it will be a low scoring game though, maybe 1-0.

Brazil all the way.

at half time the score is 0-0 Brazil got somne real great chances but hey there was the goal keeper of the year Oliver Kahn, great stops and he mind games played by the Germans was aeasome for eg their first free kick
Great ame as of yet
