Re: Fool Proof Thanksgiving Recipes!
one of my mom's friend marinate turkey with shaan tikkah masala for a day or two and according to her it tastes pretty good and her family and friends love it.
ps. do not throw tematar on me for the above sharing :D
Re: Fool Proof Thanksgiving Recipes!
are you seriousssssssssssssssss? shaan tikkah masala?
Re: Fool Proof Thanksgiving Recipes!
yup! Shan tikkah masala, yogurt, and lemon :D
Now I haven't tasted it as she live in a different state but every year she invites desis and makes this turkey :D
Oh and make sure you don't over cook it so it is not dry and cut thin slices.
Re: Fool Proof Thanksgiving Recipes!
Actually come to think of it...we make chicken tikka using the same thing so why not?
Alright, so she marinates the turkey in tikka masala, yogurt and lemon...bakes it for a few hours?
Do you know the temperature and time?

Re: Fool Proof Thanksgiving Recipes!
i don't know the baking time but it should be same as any other recipe. I think it really depends on the weight of the turkey.
Re: Fool Proof Thanksgiving Recipes!
I use Alton Brown's recipe, it comes out perfect every time. Moist and delicious, but not desi-spicy.
I have never cooked turkey desi-style, but I know that for a moist and delicious turkey, a good brine is essential- brining ensures that the white meat does not dry out while the dark meat is done cooking. Also salt in the brining process opens up the pores. You have to brine it for an hour per lb of turkey, marinate at least 4 hrs, and I believe baking time is around 5 hrs for a 12 lb turkey.
Re: Fool Proof Thanksgiving Recipes!
When I make turkey at christmas,I sometimes use a roasting bag....or just cover it with foil.
In either case I add an onion and a cut lemon in the cavity...and smear butter over it,like masaaging the bird.lol.For the first couple of hours I cook it breast side down and then turn it over for the final cooking time.Never had a dry bird.Serve with loads of roast pots. and gravy.Yummy..roll on xmas.
Forgot to add...if you are going to stuff the bird, add extra cooking time.
Re: Fool Proof Thanksgiving Recipes!
please do not stuff the bird, it is unhygienic.
Re: Fool Proof Thanksgiving Recipes!
Does the Shan Tikka Masala get absorbed into the turkey after marination so the turkey is flavorful? Anyone got a recipe where the turkey is flavorful/juicy but not super desi spicy?

^ why is it unhygienic? wouldn't you wash and clean the turkey before you stuff it? as long as you fully cook the bird and ensure that the stuffing and turkey have reached the proper temperature i don't see anything wrong with it.
Re: Fool Proof Thanksgiving Recipes!
usually, by the time the stuffing reaches that certain temperature the damn bird is dried out, thats why :)
