Curious to see what everyone’s food shopping list is like for the week. Do people even keep lists or just buy things as they run out on a daily basis?
Re: Foodshopping list
Never done the lists, sometimes the girls do it and I always somehow forget it on the kitchen counter.
I always sneak a peak in the crisper, pantry and utility cupboard before leaving for the shops.
Thats enough for me to figure out what we need and what we dont.
Unless there is a special on something like buy one get one free and i'll get that even if we have it at home.
Re: Foodshopping list
I do buy milk every 2nd day, other than that my weekly grocery is somewhat like this:
Eggs
Bread
Bagels/English Muffins
Juice
Onions
Tomatoes
Some vegetables
Apples, strawberries and bananas, maybe oranges, grapes and peaches
Gogurt
Yogurt smoothies
Milk
Chocolates
Meat/chicken: Usually a whole bunch once in 2 weeks
Other grocery (like cereals, butter, specialty foods, exotic vegetables) usually once in 2 weeks.
Desi food grocery (dals and spices vaghera) also once in a while.
Re: Foodshopping list
we keep list and it has things like milk, yogurt, bread for birds, bread for us, pitta bread, salad vegetables, water, and then other things as needed...
oh apples too and other fruit as needed...
Re: Foodshopping list
I cant stand frozen meat, I buy my meat fresh every week, marinate whatever needs to be marinated, and make kebabs, koftay etc.
I think the only thing I do monthly is Desi shopping except parathays which we seem to run out of every week even though these days Im buying a pack of 40 frozen parathas ![]()
Cant stand cold dry and soft vegetables too so I buy fresh ones after i drop the girls off at school and then come home and cook 'em.
I find browsing thru the vege shop motivating and ideas just pop into my head rather than planning a week ahead and buying vege in bulk.
Re: Foodshopping list
I dont make lists in advance, before leaving for shopping I just take a look around in the fridge and cupboards and see what we need. I grocery shop once a week and if it the middle of week Im missing something I'll just pop over to get it. Chicken I buy about every second week
We don't have any desi grocery store near by where we live also no meat shop. We have to go Chicago for grocery on monthly basis for meat, desi grocery like aata, rice, spices, daal as when we go to chicago we also buy some desi veges like karela and arwi which is not available in other store here, aslo some fruits from there which are enough for1-2 weeks rest of the shopping is done over here . For daily routine item once a week for fish, veges, fruits, bread, jam, eggs and milk etc.
I have a white board hang over the side of the refrigerator, I write down items which we have to buy in next grocery, as anything finish in the pantry, I write the name on board, and finally when we leave for grocery I have a complete list, other than that I also buy out of the list items to if it is on sale or have any deal on it.
Re: Foodshopping list
Our milk bread is delivered everyday
Grocery shopping I do make a list and that is done once a week. i try to avoid going in-between the week as I always end up buying some non-necessity item (a new type of biscuit or cheese or trinket)or the other and it ends up becoming too expensive.
Desi item shopping...as and when I run out (but a list will be prepared)
Fruit/Veg...I visit our market and I have basic standard things need like lettuce tomatoes potatoes etc...and then I pick up anything extra which is in season at the time or someting which looks fresh and I have not had for couple of weeks.
