Food processor for shami kababs

Hi there, I have been wanting to make shami kababs for a while now , but I dont have a food processor. I dont have a huge budget, but I need a food processor that does the job. Could anyone advise which processor they use and if its good? Also, is a meat grinder a better option? I only need the appliance for kababs nothing else.

Re: Food processor for shami kababs

why do you need a food processor ?

we just cook the beef cubes, then mash them using the douri-danda :p
Use the magic bullet to grind the small stuff and there ya go

Re: Food processor for shami kababs

Black & Decker - I've used it, currently own a Kitchenaid.

Difference is the noise the motor makes. Other than that, there isn't too much of a difference. Get one from Walmart or whichever store has a good return policy. Try it and see how you like the Black & Decker.

Re: Food processor for shami kababs

If you use keema you can mash it with the doi-danda thing. If you use boti style chunks, you will need something to chop it

Only reason I like using it because the food processor will cut the time significantly.

If you another type of blender that will also do, but you will need several batches to finish up.

I have made shami kebabs in my kid's baby food teeny tiny processor believe it or not.

Re: Food processor for shami kababs

Check with your MIL. She will teach you how to make Shami Kabab without a food processor.

Re: Food processor for shami kababs

You can use any type of food processor. The $80 one at Walmart or even cheaper does the trick.

Re: Food processor for shami kababs

iv have used a stick blender to mash the daal and keema together, works a treat

Re: Food processor for shami kababs

Use your pata and balen, if you have cooked your daal ghost mix very well - a very easy and fine job then - which makes
good patties

Re: Food processor for shami kababs

Thanks guys. Will just buy a cheaper food chopper (hamilton beach/ kitchen aid )and keep balen as back up.

Re: Food processor for shami kababs

Ninja brand with four blades… will cost you $19 from Walmart.

Sil Batta as back up… :dixsi:

Re: Food processor for shami kababs

I have cusinart that I bought on sale plus i had some discount coupons so I ended up paying about 70 dollars for a good size highend food processor, I would recommend buying a good well reputed FP because once you buy it you will be using it for other things too and it will last you a while, I regret not buying it soon enough becuase I thought I dont need one but it does help a lot in food prep. I use mine for chopping, shredding, making hummus, doughs, and crusts etc. Good luck

Re: Food processor for shami kababs

i bought kenwood FP reason being repute from mom who was using it for 2 gplus decades and good price but to my disappointment it was terrible, i used to grind my kebabs masala in my mini chopper of stick blender, so last year thought for high end one n got magimix which is awesome. however black n decker is even very good

Re: Food processor for shami kababs

Food processor grinds the meat too much and instead of shami kebab, you get reshmi kebab in a round shape. Get the mince grinded to a fine quality from the butchers, clean it, mix spices etc and do it by hand. I even make nargisi kofte by hand.

Re: Food processor for shami kababs

I always grind since i have been making and they are no where near to Reshmi kebab. Moreover I make from meat pieces not mince. Everyone has own preferences, some people still prefer sill bata for it

Re: Food processor for shami kababs

You are right. She taught me how can I make shami kabab using dori danda(mortal pestle).

Re: Food processor for shami kababs

I have a food processor but I've never used it. I always make shami kabab without it. I use the boneless meat and add in with the soaked chana daal with LOTS of water in a pressure cooker. When the meat is tender I shred into little pieces, by this time there is still a lot of water so I turn the flame on high til all the water dries out and by that time the meat and the daal are all blended and grinded together so I don't need to process it further and it looks and tastes amazing :)

Re: Food processor for shami kababs

I was taught to never, EVER use mince to make shaami kababs…always used boneless chunks of meat that were cut into 1 inch pieces.
Originally I would grind using sil batta (yes, we have a counter-top version ) but in recent times I have gotten lazy enough to use the FP.
If you cook the meat/daal mixture well, the meat tenderizes enough so that you don’t have to grind it very much in the FP and you can still get the “raysha” that characterizes a decent shaami kabab.

Re: Food processor for shami kababs

That's true, boneless beef is used to make shami kabobs.

Re: Food processor for shami kababs

Can anyone give a good recipe for shami kabob? Not too complicated either.

The last time I made it, it wasnt enough salt (which was my mistake), but it also had a weird smell/taste to it, I don't know why.
