My son (19 months of age) has been really ill with high grade fever every 3-4 hours for last week and blood test showed typhoid So he’s been on strong antibiotics, has gotten really weak and lost a lot of weight He was refusing food and even milk for last few days but his appetite seems like coming back today. I want ideas on light, high energy homemade food I can make for him ? He is not a picky eater MA. I made himmushy rice cooked in chicken broth today and he liked it with yogurt. I have had a very restless and sleep deprived weak and cant think of anything else I can make for him.
I myself had typhoid some time back and the hospital staff used to give me very blended soft kichri . no spices and no hard to digest stuff.
So the options can be kichri , soup , bananas & sagoo dana (this was 1 thing they always gave me in breakfast) I know I am an adult and you are asking for a kid but u can get an idea as to what to give him.
I hope he feels better soon,IA.I had typhoid last year and it was horrible.I just did not want to look at any food.
You can keep giving him mushy rice cooked with chicken broth or chicken qeema or moong ki daal,or lightly toasted bread with chicken shorba or soup, maybe custard cooked with apples and bananas.I think pasta with some mince meat should be good.Same goes with chapati dipped in shorba.Maybe cook some oatmeal with chicken broth and lightly season it,just to offer a lil variety and variation from mushy rice/khichri.What does he usually like..??..Maybe modify that and give him some.
I remember living on crackers and juice for so many days last year..:(.Not the right thing, but it was the only thing I could keep down.
Proto : just make a light paratha, and soak it in yakhni. One other thing my dad used to do was make toast soak it in yakhni and give it to us when our appetite was low. It tasted good and gave us energy as well.
Also I make very patli daal and soak rotee in it and give it to someone who is not feeling well. Try that.
Russ with milk for breakfast
Anda with toasts also breakfast.
Boiled anda is also good
When I read your post, daal ki kichiri was the first thing that came into my mind.
and if your kid loves chicken, then boil it like you would make pulou and give him the chicken bootis, with boiled peas, alloo.
for dinner or in between, try suwaniyan in milk, soji in milk or fruits.
Oh no, poor little guy is so young to have typhoid. :(I hope he feels better soon! I think other posters gave you really good ideas so I dont really have anything to add...btw, dont worry if he doesnt drink milk, you can always add some yogurt to his meals(rice dish or cereal) and other sources of calcium such as spinach, turnip and okra...just cook them really well so food is easy to digest.
He is on injectable antibiotics today :( :( he seemed better apparently but he had pain in his tummy all day and doctor said typhoid has unpredictable outcome in kids so ... :(
awwww hope he gets well soon! I would say make a light chicken corn soup, or daal wali khichri, even maggi noodles would work, but instead of using the masala it comes with, use salt n pepper, or mashed potatoes with gravy. oatmeal is also a great idea, or yogurt parfait.
I hope he gets well soon inshallah! It's such a worrying time when kids are Ill
Try porridge, fruit smoothies, milk shakes, cheese spread on soft bread, fish is also soft.
