i remember the best tasting dosa from karachi was from ponderosa when they opened..are they still around?

u hate it but aleezy luv it man

aleezay are u gujrati or indian??
just wondering

leez,

i miss the very same food too. i do manage to find places around here where i can get dosa, idli and sambhar, but puttu, i just dont find any place they make it (probably because it's limited to kerala, while the rest are more or less generic south indian, and because you need special vessels to make it).

the idlis you posted look like rava(sooji)idlis to me. the "normal" ones are made of a mix of rice and urad dal, and are white (you can see them in the sambhar pic around the dish).

idlis and dosa go well with sambhar and/or different chutneys, and even with spicy meat curries. the generic sambhar usually has just one vegetable in it, but in kerala, it's made with a mix of vegetables giving it a distinct taste.

puttu is usually made of rice flour, but there is also wheat puttu, which is fluffier. puttu goes well with a 1001 different things. traditionally, it's eaten with bananas(small kind as well as big) and papad, or spicy bengal gram curry, or boiled green grams with grated coconut. my mom has hers with coffee in it. i used to eat mine with a block of cheese and sugar. also goes very well with fish and meat curries.

i wonder if you have had dishes like vella-appam, noolappam/idiappam, kozha-katta, ada and pathiri. i'll try to find some pictures. btw, can you PM me "info" on where you found these pics?

.. from the list above I can only eat dosa.. even with the great desire of my Indian friends i could never had the heart to eat sambhar! its too bland for my punjabi taste.. and more amazingly they eat only one kind of yellow daal all year around.. dunno why they dont eat maash, masar and other daals!

phajjaa nanbai : Phajja Bhayee… u weren’t supposed to let the secret out… rite!!! :smash: … wesay u r rite.. there arent too many thins that i can cook… :frowning:

Cheegum : Nope.. Pakistani.. through n through!

BirdBrain : They r really yummy… but u need to develop the taste for em.. i’ve been on such food since .. ermm… cant even remember since when… n i do luv em all… even if i cant even pronounce their names

Qrius : Hey Sameen … .. well gurly.. yeah.. ponderosa was good.. but my nani cooks better masala dosa at home with aloo ki bhaaji n naryal ki chutnee … last time i saw em, they were at sea view.. but they sold out the place to KFC… i think they still hav an outlet at muhammad ali society .. not sure though …

eddy : I luv idli mannNn .. specially rice ones .. they r simply scrumptious.. how can u NOT like em !!! khair… neah .. M Pakistani … but i luv their food …

queer : That was enlightning … .. u kno that puttu vessel..!!! my nani hav it…treasures it like n ethin … n she makes best (n only) puttu i ever tasted .. those bananas.. hmm.. nendrakai or sumthin like that … they taste excellent wiht puttu … wesay i’ve never tasted rava kay idli… but rice idlis r awsome …

oh jeeeez .. i miss appams … :teary1:
