Food freezing query

Can rice, pasta and potatoes be frozen? Do they heat well later in microwave or get mushy and tasteless?

Btw rice as in pilau and potatoes in aalo- shorba or aalo- qeema.

Re: Food freezing query

Try it and let us all know.

Re: Food freezing query

Don't know about rice and potatoes but you can freeze pasta and when you re-heat
it it tastes like as yum as before freezing :)

Re: Food freezing query

fresh is always better...potatoes are fine while rice doesn't freeze well.

Re: Food freezing query

I've frozen briyani, and it's fine. If I freeze biryani,I do it in an air tight box, and I place grease proof paper, or a cloth directly on top, so ice crystals don't form on the rice.

I've also frozen aloo tikkis, and they're fine as you don't need to worry about the texture with mashed potato. I don't think you can freeze potatoes in a curry that well though, however I've never tried it.

Re: Food freezing query

I have been wondering why we can't freeze potato kebabs but we can freeze potato samosas? Anyone have any tips / recommendations for that.

MM : you could freeze the ghosht ka salan without potatoes and add potatoes while reheating on stove. (I find re-heating frozen foods on stove is much better than microwave, sometimes I get the smell from chicken and meat if I re-heat in microwave, although there is no smell in the fresh food)

Re: Food freezing query

Thanks for the tips. I freeze aalo kay cutlets all the time , no issues ever. Just fry them frozen, don't thaw before cooking.

I'll be freezing this food for husband while I am away on a trip. So cooking stuff and adding later is not an option. I have done this before too but icant remember which dishes I froze.
