Ok , so all these lovely cakes with so much fondant on them to decorate them. Whats the point of all that fondant when people hardly eat it , is it a waste of money and effort to use fondant on cakes?
Re: fondant on the cake a waste?
Yes I wonder why do people waste money on fondant? If decoration then there are different ways of decorating cake too ![]()
Re: fondant on the cake a waste?
It’s purely for aesthetics.
Most ornate/fancy/special occasion cake designs cannot be achieved without molding or using fondant.
Re: fondant on the cake a waste?
I think it is.
I’ve never had fondant (professional or homemade) that I actually ate. it’s just for decoration.
as for whether it’s a waste of money…well…to each their own.
Re: fondant on the cake a waste?
Personally, I don’t like using fondant when decorating cakes as people never eat it. Usually, I just use a thicker type of icing and apply a couple of coats to give the cake a more polished look.
Re: fondant on the cake a waste?
Fondant gives a very polished and sophisticated look to cakes,
Re: fondant on the cake a waste?
I guess I and my son are the only ones who like to eat fondant on cake !!
But I have only had home made fondant so not sure if I will like the Wilton or other ready made fondants.
Re: fondant on the cake a waste?
I always thought so, I would only prefer it for weddings, where the cake will be actually also photographed, so for special occasions it does give a nicer look but that’s about it. But I also wonder how a fresh cream cake would hold up if it’s setup right then when dessert is about to be served?!?
Re: fondant on the cake a waste?
If it’s a good quality fondant then I don’t mind eating it…particularly if it is in a thin enough layer and the cake has been kept at the right temperature.
Re: fondant on the cake a waste?
Nobody except me likes fondant?! I hate it when people eat the cake and leave the end piece with fondant on the plate! ![]()
Re: fondant on the cake a waste?
I had a cake with fondant for my sons last birthday, and actually most of it did get eaten. Maybe that’s because there were a lot of kids? I don’t think the same look could have been achieved with a fresh cream cake.
Re: fondant on the cake a waste?
I wanted a fondant cake for son’s birthday but dropped the idea because no one could.eat it…
Why isnt there any eatable fondant or a method to achieve a.perfect polished look for.the cakes?why??
Re: fondant on the cake a waste?
I love fondant, it’s the best part of the cake lol. Everyone usually gives their leftover fondant to me
fondant on the cake a waste?
I ordered Minecraft themed cupcakes for my son’s birthday last week and the kids are ALL the fondant toppers lol…the friend I ordered from has a bakery business and her cakes taste as good as they look…fondant and all!
