I have a desi accent (I think I do … its sort of the Pakistani accent-less accent) , who cares if people make fun of me 
I know this kid (distant cousin) back home who has this Balochi accent and the way he speaks English is soooo cool, to die for

Have you ever encountered an individual who is nice for the most part but has one really annoying quality that makes it difficult for you to hang around them for too long? You have nothing against their character but maybe a certain trait of theirs is too overwhelming for YOU, but to someone else it's no big deal. Perhaps the really nice and intelligent and educated person has a habit of frequent accidental spitting or snorting or belching or farting. And while that may sound like pretty music to someone else's ears, **it could sound like a frickin unbearable cacophony to you and going through life wearing a gas mask and ear plugs would be too much of a hassle. **In conclusion, we're all different when it comes to what we can handle.
We know that accents don't determine intelligence and personality. And yes, this is a serious and intelligent post by an educated person who has knowledge. :p
I thought we were talking about the accent.

i think the reason some people may be turned off to desi accents is because they think that desi accent = uneducated, when that's not the case. there's a huge difference between accent and vocabulary. someone can have very elevated language while having a thick desi accent, or have a perfect american accent but terrible vocabulary and sentence structure.
another thing is that sometimes when you hear a desi accent, you automatically assume the person hasn't been here in the u.s for too long, therefore they must be very different from you, so you can't possibly be compatible. but again, this is only an assumption, it doesn't necessarily mean that someone with an accent hasn't been here for too long. i know people who were born and raised in u.s that have a slight desi accent, and people who came from pakistan 4-5 years ago who have a pure american accent.
also, some people feel that someone who has an american accent is more westernized and modern opposed to someone with a desi accent. this is also false. i know of girls who have thick desi accents whose style of dressing is much more "western" than mine. i dress more conservatively, but i don't have an accent like them.
anyway, i wouldn't reject a guy who has the whole package just because he has a slight accent. but if i had to choose between two guys with the same qualifications, i'd go with the guy who doesn't have an accent. i guess that just depends on personal preference. people generally do choose mates who are most similar to them.

what's an fob accent? like british english has an accent, american english has an accent, so does pakistani english ... why is it then an fob? is it bad, and worth calling it fob?
would be quite something to find an entire assembly laughing in the UN when the chinese prime minister starts giving a speech in english (although chinese always take their translators!)

If the fobby accent guy is not after greencard, respects me, loves and cares for me, supportive of me in different lines of life, he himself settled in his career, willing to improve himself, keep moving up the ladder, is humble, and not status concious, then why not.
I think I too have a desish accent...:D

It can be a turn off. But if he's got a good personality and character, then it will not be taken as a serious drawback.
a girl will marry the ugliest man on earth if he got money so accent is nothing...girls like to live off of the guy so nothing matters...ann nicole smith married a 96 year old man...she said it was for the love of the man...hehe...i did believe her ;)
i dun agree at allll...money is 'not at all' the 'only' thing...there are many other things girls wud prefer to be in a guy rather than money only...:)
