Re: Fob Accent
what abt those girls PCG who speaks Urdu in a british accent plus they use use masculine verbs like"main jata hoon...main is ko pasand kerta hoon". when they r in pak ppl make fun of them too. how would u like a girl to be rejected on this basis in pak?
^ People are rejected in rishtas, job interviews, you name it, for a crap load of reasons. It's part of life, an unpleasant one I admit, but we face it all the time.
People with thick desi accents are made fun of. Girls with bimbo, ditzy, valley-girl accents are made fun of. Arnold Schwarzeneger, the Terminator, is teased about his strong Austrian accent. Even western born and raised desis are made fun of for their Americanized urdu. I'm not saying it's right. But it all boils down to personal preference.
Re: Fob Accent
Yes, but the grammar and fluency has to be impeccable. You know, educated fob accent? It's kind of cute.
Re: Fob Accent
I love Pakistani accent or “FOB” accent. Listen to Imran Khan and Mushahid Hussain and this journalist Nisar Malik.
#Many FOBs do not have these accents so there are differences in FOB accents.

Well the Cat woman is going to find other cats attractive....lol
Snow leopard is one of the most beautiful animals on Planet Earth.
Re: Fob Accent
Depends on how fobby. like if someone was raised in pakistan but went to good school their accent would still be fobby but grammar would be good. so yeah ill go with that. but if someone cant speak proper english or has really strong fobby accent then no way.

People shouldn't act like snobs. they need to be humble. if other person is good just an accent makes no sense. marriage proposals cannot be compared with job interviews.
Would you marry a guy who has a fob accent?
(I guess guys can answer this too, but, honestly, we all know this is a 99% woman dominated forum anyway).
This is really teh wrong question you are asking. Your main concerns should be, does he treat me well? Does he respect me?
You may write off a really decent person for a really dumb reason.
Re: Fob Accent
actually its not just the accent but the whole fobby package that comes with it. and its hard for someone whos been raised in america or uk to deal with that. when i say fob i dont mean just the accent but lifestyle too.
I am a fob and English is not my first language. so the accent is not an issue as long the primary medium of instruction was English. Urdu medium won't fly... a couple of years ago saw a Pakistani girl with a very Pakistani accent make a presentation about a masters program she was in. she was so ambitious and a real go-getter... looked super cute in her pant suit...
so, long story short - the accent is not a problem. but grammar and spelling are very important. misspelling words/phrases like loser (especially since it`s so popular on this forum), privilege, definitely, "thankS God", etc is not cool... just a pet peeve.

If somebody don't like you for whatever reason, then it's better to pursue someone who WILL like and accept you. But people can't be stopped from having opinions, regardless of how others might view them. We have opinions about inanimate things like vehicles and movies and books and clothes. But it's considered a bigger deal when one has an opinion about a human being. Human nature. It would be more snobby to openly voice your disdain for the prospective rishta to his or her face. However, if one politely refuses the rishta and wishes them well, i don't think it's really snobby. I know that nobody is perfect but it would be fair to neither party to be commit when either side is not wholeheartedly interested.

But how many people look down upon that? People make fun of it, but no one looks down upon it. It's considered kind of "cool" to talk like that.
Re: Fob Accent
Doesn't stop perfectly good ABCD desi boys to go back and get a dulhan from pakiland
Re: Fob Accent
I don't think it's just the accent, it's the "foreign sound", and being unwilling to change even after you have been corrected or have heard the correct pronunciation a thousand times. Also, things like "I tell you" and "Vut" get old really fast.
Re: Fob Accent
Anyone giving serious thought to someone's accent is just making a big deal out of nothing.
Perhaps for light jokes it is okay but otherwise its just a moot point.
Accent has nothing to do with knowledge, education and intelligence.
