did anyone take Qatar airways for travel abroad (from US) to Pakistan/UAE? I’m interested to know if anyone took a domestic flight (from one US city to another) first to catch Qatar Airways flight. The question is about luggage (as usual desi concern :D). Qatar Airways allows 23 kg per bag and 2 bags per person, while the domestic airlines nowadays don’t allow that much luggage, in that case does the local airline charge for this ‘extra’ luggage?
I would like to advise users of your website never to fly on Qatar Airways.
I originally booked a flight to Delhi and back, one part of which Qatar Airways simply dropped a few days before I was due to fly out. They never contacted me about this as I only learned about it when I phoned their Gatwick number to enquire about an unrelated issue about the flights.
As a replacement flight to the one they dropped (Doha to Gatwick), they put in place a flight that was supposed to fly out 11 hours later than the one originally scheduled. The result being that when I landed in Doha, I was denied a hotel room and had to contend with the dreadful food they give to passengers awaiting transfer in the Doha airport. The reason they gave for this is that the original booking I made never included a hotel room as the original transfer time in Doha was less that 8 hours. However, they, out-of-the-blue, canceled this flight and scheduled another one that was 19 hours after I landed in Doha, way over the 8 hours cut-off-point for a hotel. I tried enquiring about paying for a hotel out of my own pocket, but I was again even denied this information.
The upshot of all this is that I was forced to spend 19 hours staring like a mad thing at the floor of an airport terminal.
I had flown Qatar before this and thought their service was good. However, I, along with numerous friends, work colleagues and relatives to whom I have explained what happened to me, will not use this company ever again after the kind of appalling service I was subjected to. I hope you will agree and that your users should review any flight arrangements they have made now and in the future with this company based on my experience.
This is first time I'm hearing that kind of horror story about Qatar Airways. Having said that, I don't doubt that it happened because I have been to Doha several times (which is a 45 minute flight from here) and even though I never had to stay at the airport, I did see the transit area while I was passing by. To be honest: It didn't look like a very comfortable place to stay in for several hours.

In short, stay well clear of this "airline".
Wow. That's awful. Sorry to hear about your bad experience.
tsk tsk...no one answered the threadstarter's query. :p
I think if Qatar is allied with a domestic airline (United Airlines) then they share the same restrictions even for a domestic connection. Because Qatar only flies to Washington so far i think and then they connect you to UAL for the remainder of your domestic transit, so the luggage carries over as if it was one trip/same itinerary. Best to contact the airline to find out for sure.
To my understanding... if its a code share flight.... then the same rule applies from start till end. But if two separate tickets are purchased for the journey...then two seperate luggage rules apply..
I flew from Saudi Arabia to Bahrain to London to Boston with GulfAir this month... From Saudi to Bahrain to London was GulfAir then it was code shared with American Airlines for London > Boston. My luggage was checked in Saudi and I received it in Boston. Else if I have chosen another route options like Emirates or Etihad or Qatar till New York , then I would have paid much more extra for my trip from NYC to Boston.
well, quite a horrorish story....sorry to hear that....but qatar airways are awsum they provide amazing service in flight and no problems ever happend wid us so!!!i wud recomend it infact i am gonna fly wid dem next time i visit pakistan!XD
Here's another horror story. We flew from NY (headed for KHI), with 2 scheduled transfers. At heathrow our flight got dropped and considering it was Christmas day we couldn't find a decent soul to answer our questions. Plus if you know Heathrow then you'd understand our issue. That place is a city on its own. We finally found a counter which QA was sharing with some other airline Hence the next flight was 12 hrs later. The reason I found out later after stretigic questioning was that there were not enuff passengers to flight the plane. Luckily we have an uncle who lives not too far from the airport, in Hounslow, so he came and picked us up we were atleast comfortable.
In Doha we missed our flight but luckily there was another flight in 2 hrs. Ofcourse because of our missed flight our luggage got lost. We finally got to Karachi. Our bags didn't get there for 4 days. And lo and behond we hadlots of stuff missing. Perfumes, designer frames, toys etc etc. They did give us $200 for the 4 day delay though :)
Coming back it was ok.
PS: They didn't even want to deliver the bags to our house, like is customary. But I have a cousin who is a big shot for them in Karachi, so we did them at home.
We went to Lahore from Dulles, VA and did not have any problem. They had pretty good service. They did not serve food that many times, but they had sandwiches available.
Doha Airport is small and not well organized. Only problem you face is going in a bus to the terminal, while holding your hand laugage and kids. Then there is not any organized lines/system going thru the scaning/checking point.
If someone has connecting flight, then domestic fight does not charge anything extra, unless you have more than 50 pounds in one suitcase.
