If you are given a choice between flying a plane or driving a boat, what would your choice be and why?
I have always been fascinated of planes since I was a kid and have wanted to become a pilot but was told that no one from our family can either go to Air Force or become a pilot so I opted to become an aeronautical engineer but gave that up to become a software engineer. I still very much want to fly a plane and am afraid of boats.
i fly virtual planes to satisfy my ambition of piloting a plane.
i take off from Lucknow or Allahabad and go around my villages and happy to see my home.
i tried successfully landing at Leh and Paro airports in India and Bhutan which are considered one of the most dangerous airports from landing point of view.
here is one such landing by Druk Airways at Paro airport. it’s an amazing landing. the pilot can’t see the airport until the plane is at 500 feet level. he lands while still maneuvering his aircraft. the hilltop houses fly by in front of your plane window as the houses on the track side pass by your train window. the plane zigzags in the valley like a bus on a curvy road.
simply amazing approach to a dangerous airport to land. the runway at Paro is a ‘Table-Top’ runway:
When I was in high school I toyed about with the idea of being a pilot. I'm still considering taking flying lessons purely for leisure purposes. I'm probably one of the few people that actually enjoys flying
ive actually flown in and out of Paro, its really pretty but doesn't feel dangerous. or maybe the Druk pilots know their way around the valley.
really? wow! you are one heck of a lucky guy.
the problem is the mountain around the airport. the airport is surrounded by tall mountains. the plane has to maintain a certain speed to clear the mountain tops and then the steep slope makes the plane pick up more speed while descending and that's the problem. it's better to go around between the valleys.
