Re: Flu Vaccine for my 3 year old
Hello;
I’m sorry to hear she has had many ear infections. But, the flu vaccine wouldn’t contribute to that. In fact, I give the flu vaccine to my patients if even they are on antibiotics for an ear infection (as long as the parents consent). The flu vaccine is always advised, especially for starting at 6 months of age… Infants, young children, elderly are at risk for the complications from the Flu. There is no treatment for the flu.. it weakens your immune system and leaves you open to super imposed infections… I’ve seen the worst of it, as would have most doctors.
Side effects expected are as after any vaccine- fever, pain at the site (if you get the shot- they do also have the nasal spray for ages 2 and older that do not have asthma or other chronic disease). Sometimes a slight cold afterwards.
But I’d discuss it further with your doctor. I advise it for every patient of mine.
- Not sure where you are, but prevnar has 4 shots, your daughter, needs the last booster.
