Stay away from any medicine cuz all medicine has side effects. This is the rule of thumb unless you are prone to getting sick easily because of a weak immune system or an illness like asthma, allergies etc. I had asthma and severe allergies many years ago. I would get bronchitis and pneumonia very easily (few times a year) following a minor flu or cold. I was taking flu shots every year but haven't taken them since I have out grown my asthma.
But I do catch the flu or severe colds atleast twice every winter and it gets reaalllllly bad cos i have some hybrid form of sinus too and it makes my eyes and lower forhead kill me. Anyhow i'll see how i get thru this winter.
I used to get flu so frequently in Pakistan, but when I moved to US it happened rarely. I tried flu shot once, that was 5-6 years ago and found almost no difference. I don’t drink milk anymore ( ) … perhaps that helped. God knows.
I don't take flu shots and I haven't had flu since 1995 (alhumdulillah). Like someone said, the shot only protects against specific strains of flu and are useless against new strains.
increase orange/orange juice in your diet.. start eating little more in winter time..try spending time outside more if u CAN (not in like our area, but it helps) be physically active, catching cold and sneezing are normal, but u wont get the severe case of flu if u're careful..
actually the best way to prevent cold and flu is to wash your hands often. OJ and exercise will give your immune system a boost but will not actually prevent sickness if you're exposed to a virus. Doorknobs and shopping carts, subway handles, railings elevator buttons, public phones and money are all notoriously infectious!
