Flowers!!! ~ Chicago

Ive noticed in Chicagoland and surrounding areas we dont have a lot of places for flowers made the way we (desies) need them for weddings and mehndis.

I know someone who makes really nice flower haars and backdrops but what about gajras and flower tikas? And bracelets?

Anyone know how I can find a service/person/place/shop who can do these things? Or someone who can make them and ship them fresh?

Re: Flowers!!!

My mom and I make them but we are in Canada

Re: Flowers!!!

they aren't that difficult to make...i remember when i was really young and visiting pakistan..my cousins and I picked flowers...took them home and made gajras out of them. they were very east. all u need is a needle and tread.
try it.
GOOD LUCK!

Re: Flowers!!!

Psquared, i got married in Chicago and were able to get gajray and garland for dulha from a shop on Devon. Its almost on the intersection of Devon and Western, its a shop for watches, clocks etc. You go in and ask them about it and he can show you pictures. We were very happy with what we got. Both gajray and garland were chunky with lots of flowers and surprisingly very reasonable in terms of prices as well.

Re: Flowers!!!

^ Ira, you got married in Chicago? Are you originally from here?

I think I know what you're talking about. Its a desi electronics type store right? Im going to try and check it out this weekend if the weather gets better.

Thank you so much!!!

Re: Flowers!!!

Psquared, yes i was from there, but moved after i got married. The shop i am talking about is on the other side of Devon, not the same side as Tahoora. So you cross the road and its next to a western union i think. I remember only noticing watches and wall clocks. The guys in there are hindus. If you want to see pics of the flowers, i could PM you those too.

Re: Flowers!!!

^ Can you please PM me pics? That would be so helpful, we've got a big snow last night and it would save me a trip to Devon to take a look at the flowers if they've got them at the store.

Thank you again!

Hey u guys r talking abt Rami from Flowers & flowers. Ps I might be getting my flowers from him. He also makes centerpieces and stage decorations. Have u talked to him yet?

Re: Flowers!!!

I dont know who that is...do you have contact info?

Re: Flowers!!!

Yeah its the same guys Ira is talking about. Their store on Devon is called Genuine Time. Its a watch store.I went to see his work like 2 weeks ago. This guy is good. My mom has seen his actual stage set up at Monty's once. She said it was nice. Also he has a huge collection of pictures u can browse from. Straight up kinda guy. No desi bs.

Also I think his prices were pretty reasonable.

Re: Flowers!!!

too bad hes not in Florida =(
would he ship them to me?

The flower jewellery is really easy to make PSQ, u only need flexible thin wire and flowers!

Re: Flowers!!!

Yes, Bint-e-Naeem is talking about the same guy. I remember his name now, it is Rami. Psquared i have been busy with things, so havent been able to send pics. Will send some soon inshaAllah.

U can call him & ask him. But I m sure shipping fresh flowers will cost u a lot.

That's great. I really want those wrist ones for all the girls. If I can make them at home that'll be awesome. Any tips ? :)

Can u pls send them to me too. Plssssssss. Thank you in advance.

Here’s a link to get you started on diy flower garlands:

How to make flower garlands

scroll down to where it says “if you are making a flower garland to wear…”

i would suggest using fishing wire or a pliable metal wire instead of doubled thread. if any of you try this please share your results!

If you go to any arts and crafts store like michael’s u can buy this type of flexible metal wire.

Yep, sure can! Even Walmart or Target would carry it. Its called craft wire and is usually made from copper, aluminum or a combination of similar alloys.

Thanks for the link somehowcollide. But it looks really complicated. :( I m def. gonna experiment with craft wire though.
