ISLAMABAD: A flood warning system has been activated in Rawalpindi to provide an early warning of floods during the monsoon season. The system was gifted to Pakistan by Japan.

Talking to reporters during his visit to the Flood Relief Centre, Rawalpindi District Coordination Officer (DCO) Irfan Ilahi said the district government had taken numerous safety measures to combat possible floods. “Numerous preparations are being made to prevent floods at Nala Lai. The Civil Defence Department, Fire Brigade and Rescue 1122 are also on red alert,” he said.

Rawal Town Nazim Sheikh Rashid Shafiq said that Fire Brigade, Civil Defence and Rescue 1122 teams would immediately reach flooded areas in case of a flood, and perform search and rescue operations. online

Anyone know what this system actually does? Does it just make a loud noise? Ring people in the vacinity and notify them that there’s a flood coming? Or something else?

Re: Flood warning system activated in Rawalpindi

Guys I have been recently in a flood, do not take it lightly store as much water canned food and first aid kits as per your family requirement. Make preparation at least for two weeks provision. Keep your mobile phones charged. Lately it has been a practice that people not use land lines any more for communication, exchange land line numbers as these are more reliable than GSMs. If you can afford buy sat phones which are not dependent on any local support. Move all valuables passports, certificates jewellery, electronics etc etc to higher floor of your house.

Above all if flooding occurs do not go outside at all for any reason other than if your life is threatened.

I hope it doesn't come to that but still fore-warned is fore-armed.

PS: If sh1t hits the fan keep all phones switched off except one. Use phones one by one to conserve battery, you might not get chance to recharge your phone because the first thing to go is electricity.
