Flood victim torches himself outside PM house

MULTAN: An unemployed father-of-four who lost his home in Pakistan’s devastating floods died Monday after setting fire to himself outside the prime minister’s home, officials said.
Muhammad Akram, 30, doused his body in petrol and lit himself with a match after being denied entry to Yousuf Raza Gilani’s private residence in the central city of Multan at the weekend, police said.

My Comments:

“There was a rich man who was dressed in purple and fine linen and who feasted sumptuously every day. And at his gate lay a poor man named…, covered with sores, who longed to satisfy his hunger with what fell from the rich man’s table; even the dogs would come and lick his sores. The poor man died and was carried away by the angels to be with…”

What do you think?

Re: Flood victim torches himself outside PM house

I think it is all too easy to log on to GS and talk about corruption and politics and hunger and homelessness and suicides. We are too insensitive to what goes on in our homeland. Safely tucked away in our comfortable rooms, we sip coffee and blame everyone under the sun but ourselves for all that's wrong in Pakistan.

I wish the people displaces and devastated by the floods had access to the internet and other media and could tell us how they feel. I wish this guy had a blog that would surely wake us up from our slumber. How desperate one has to be to do burn oneself like that? How devastated a mother be when she took her children and plunged in front of a train? Her tweets would have made us cry, if she could use those 140 characters. How 'human' did the parents feel when they put their children up for sale? What would they have written in the classifieds?

Then there are people out there, on the ground, making sure we do not stoop to the level where God promised He would remove such people from the human race and have some other people replace them. We need to find them, and celebrate them.

I feel so sorry for this man what he did is not allowed (suicide) but he must have been desperate with no answer to feed his family or see future this is fully responsible of the government they cannot look after the people.

Only after he dies the prime minister gives some money!

So if you try and kill yourself the govenrment will give you help your family by giving some money this how bad it has become.

Re: Flood victim torches himself outside PM house

There are many ways to help in trying to eliminate social evils from the society, I choose to bring these sad stories to lime-light.

Re: Flood victim torches himself outside PM house

This is so true, this sad story was satirically dipicted in the movie by Anusha Rizvi called Peepli Live.

In the movie Govt. officials plan to distribute money cards for people who have commited suicide or are planning to commit suicide.

PM Manmohan Singh has asked the arm chair officials of planning commision to watch this movie.

Re: Flood victim torches himself outside PM house

i feel bad for him that he had to get to that level of setting himself on fire.

i see it as a selfish act though, he's brought his family not only the pain they had b4 with all the damage caused by the flood but now that he's not in their life anymore, they have to fend for themselves and they're fatherless and his wife a widow. they're probably going through 10 times the hell they were going through b4. :(
