Flood management - Karachi

Who told you that he is still studying it?

http://www.dailytimes.com.pk/default.asp?page=2009\07\19\story_19-7-2009_pg12_2
Kamal examined the newly installed storm water drain system and was satisfied to see that the drain system was working well. While overseeing the situation around the Signal Free Corridors-I, II, Shahrah-e Faisal, old city areas and the cleaning and de-silting work of storm water drains at Nagan Chowrangi, he maintained that during the heavy downpours in the city about four years ago, the citizens saw the worst of the situation, as heavy rains wreaked havoc in most the city while most the streets drowned because of the lack of a proper drainage system. During his visit to many other areas of the city including Saddar, SITE, North Nazimabad, Gulberg, Lyari and Liaquatabad Town, he noted that the CDGK municipal services department did not have to dewater any road during or after heavy rains.

Who said there were kickbacks? Any reference?

Before blaming MK for every evil, you need to realize that rains this year have been unusual.

The Meteorological Department said 207 mm of rain was recorded in 1977 while the city received 205 mm of rain at Masroor Base area.

Major problem Karachi is actually having due to this rain is power outages from KESC. And this is not under the control of city government.

^^^
why are you so personal and defending MK blindly? If he is so good not only mqm but other communities would also speak about his working. Or you are defending him because he is muhajir like you, the psycho and faulty thinking will you take nowhere.

Re: Flood management - Karachi

i havI don't want to defend anyone, except when anyone is being criticized unjustly. This is why I have supported Bhutto, present CJ, Musharraf, and Nawaz when they were blamed unjustly.
MK may be criticized for other issues, but not when he does not deserve it.

[/quote]

Similarly, I could ask, are you abusing him because he is a muhajir?

Can you tell me where this particular road is located?

So how do you want me to ask? Write a formal letter to address MK here? :hehe:

Roads/bridges become trash if flood management is not accompanied with that.

Dear friend, you could have just ASKED about his plans. But your first post was a claim instead.

Re: Flood management - Karachi

^^ and that was when u decided to go blind and defend him at all cost

Sir, I wish the system were working well. The ‘news’ you are quoting are statements by Mustafa Kamal. I am sorry, Mustafa Kamal saying that the drain system is ‘working well’ does not mean anything while I get accounts from my family and friends about it (since newspapers except dailytimes.com.pk are all biased).

The news you quote also mention that:
*
However, the CDGK helpline did not receive any rain related complaint from the citizens, added Kamal*

I mean, please be reasonable and honestly tell me if all the citizens are happy with, for example, bridges being washed away by rain water?

Rain death toll rises to 33; two bridges wiped out
*
A bridge washed away near Maripur police station at Hawks Bay Road, causing traffic to and from Hawks Bay to be blocked. Meantime, a bridge, linking Airport to Gulistan-e-Jauhar washed away near Airport Security Forces headquarter in rainwater, causing to obstruct the way.*

or Rain claims 20 lives in Karachi

*Meanwhile, the KPT Underpass in Clifton, Gharibabad, Nazimabad and Sohrab Goth underpasses were inundated and closed, while most of the roads and arteries of the city were also blocked due to the rainwater.
*

Or you can read any other newspaper for that matter.

I know that these were unusual rains but I am not unjustly criticizing MK. I am aware of his efforts and all the marketing associated with it. I have seen newly constructed underpasses being closed every time it rained. I mean, common, you are making an UNDERPASS for God’s sake. It HAS to have a drainage system!

Supply of justice, law and order, electricity etc are the things you claim are not under the Mayor’s control. Making roads and bridges the can be washed away by rain water, however, are.

The links you provided are from 2006 when MK is ‘talking’ about flooding in Karachi. He is still ‘talking’. In 2006, he was ‘talking’ about the garbage disposal, he is still ‘talking’.

Its not that he is solely responsible for the evils in Karachi. The city has been like this for years now. Its just that all the marketing trying to prove him as some kind of a hero is the garbage we need disposed.

So he is willing to help people from te same background as he, but people who arent of the same background won be recievin any help? How does that in any way reflect prositivly on this "Mustafa bhai"?
And how is this even surprising? He helps his MQM/ urdu speaking friends! I HAD NO IDEA!

I have never abused some one because of ethinicity. Can you prove that? I will be last person to abuse because some one is muhajir. Rest assure. Please read my other posts regarding MK.

Re: Flood management - Karachi

All the newly built underpassess have turned into major swimming pools.... Yeah the system is working. Mustapha Kamal was also caught saying that NONE of the roads got flooded, as a matter of fact all of Karachi's streets/roads were flooded at least to 2-3 feet.

Other people will defend chaudry shabaz sharif who already was proven to have ordered the killing of people in broad daylight on TV, but millions of people are his followers. And how are the nawaz leagures dealing with their own creation the suiciders these days?

Re: Flood management - Karachi

^ Khehkeshan, since we are not talking murders here (where MQM would win on all accounts, like it or as you say, 'live in denial') lets come back to flood management.

I invite you to visit Lahore during this monsoon. Identify the roads and underpasses built during Shahbaz Sharif's first tenure as CM. You would notice that Lahore gets flooded during rains but not those roads. Underpasses built after his tenure during the Q League time will flood but not the older ones. I do not live in Lahore anymore but I can still claim that because I saw those roads/underpasses being built. A weekly quality check by independent engineers and if the road under construction is not up to mark, it had to be taken apart and built again on contrator's cost. I witnessed one half-kilometer section of road built five time over and over again until certified by the engineers. No extra cost on part of government, only that some commitment involved.

Again, the idea is not to compare these two persons or parties or cities. It is just that when you portray yourself as an infrastructure guru, you should deliver.

Re: Flood management - Karachi

The Malir river was embanked in 1983-1985. Now there are hardly any casualties due to flooding in that 2nd largest river of Sindh. On 30 June 1977, about 150 people were killed in that river due to the that super flood resulted from 8 inches of rainfall in just 2 hours on that June day.

Lyari river(Karachi's 2nd largest river) has also been managed with the construction of lyari express way.

Now the problem lies with Gujar Nala and Orangi Nala. The Gujar Nala has been badly enchroached by people making it very narrow. Most of the pictures appearing in the media belong to people who have made houses in the dry beds of this riverlet.

Rest of the death are caused by falling electric wires.
