Heavy rainfall in the valley of mecca and the suburbs submerged the valley and left the life paralyzed.
It was a great disaster, people were forced out of their homes, - took shelter on peaks under open skies. Cars and busses ditched into the well of zamzam, which at that time was quite wide and located outside the haram.
Due to contamination of water, cholera, and other diseases spread briskly, killing many – stagnating the whole city for months. It was a great tragedy indeed.
But amazingly, the tawaf didn’t stopped… you might be able to notice few people here and there enjoying the tawaf while swimming.
