flaxseeds...

what do you call them in Urdu.. I googled it and found Alsi in hindi but I have never heard this term before so probably it’s different in Pakistan.

Also, is it one of the common spices in Pakistani food or not?

Re: flaxseeds...

i think it is called alsi in urdu as well
common spice??? i dont think so

Re: flaxseeds...

hmm so alsi is it..thanks :-)

Re: flaxseeds...

Nope, but it should be made common as it is a natural mood lifter, along with having other nutrient payloads.

Re: flaxseeds...

i dont think it's used a spice but rather you can eat it with cereal. Gemini where can you buy this from pakistan?

Re: flaxseeds...

Neera: I have no idea and I won't know unless and until I went grocery shopping in Pakistan. To be honest, I dun think my family ever uses flaxseeds or Alsi because I have never heard this term before but as Belle said I think it should be a must due to it's nutrition facts n figures!

Re: flaxseeds...

Gtg
what exactly do you plan to do with em?

Re: flaxseeds...

flax seed aka alsi is great to reduce cholesterol levels and keep you bp in line. I love eating it just raw as any other seed. There is flax seed oil out there too.

Re: flaxseeds...

Sajal baji: Infact my baji was wondering about it since one of my nephews doesn't eat fish at all and flax seeds are rich in omega-3 fat that is found in fish so she was asking me for ideas to incorporate it in his food. oh by the way, all the ppl taht she talked to in Pakistan think it's animals food and is found at farms only. :D

Mahru: Do you have any ideas for using flax seeds in Pakistani food?

Re: flaxseeds...

my mil used it a lot..in her oat meal..poured it on after cooking the oatmeal..!It,s sold in all grocery stores....as mil used it here and in pakistan too.

Re: flaxseeds...

I thought alsi was wheatgerm? although i agree flax seed is really good for you.

Re: flaxseeds...

I take flaxseed oil supplements for controlling eczema. Also good as it has omega 3. I hear the oil itself is very nutritious...taken as salad dressing...dont know how it tastes.

Re: flaxseeds...

i heard that people used it to lose weight too,but cant find it,if anyone know that where can i get it in ksa?

Re: flaxseeds...

Gia: just sprinkle it over cereals. Use it as a salad topping. or even take it as a spoonful with honey as a snack.

Aaaish: You should be able to find it any food health store.
