Flawed Alcohol Policy?

Constitution of Pakistan, Article 37

*37.
The State shall:
(h) prevent the consumption of alcoholic liquor otherwise than for medicinal and, in the case of non-Muslims, religious purposes; *

As far as I’m aware, the only religion in Pakistan which requires the consumption of alcoholic liquor as part of a religious rite is Christianity.

Why is liquor available to all non-Muslims, and in particular why is it not limited for distribution solely to churches and cathedrals?

Re: Flawed Alcohol Policy?

I don’t think that Christianity “requires” consumption of alcohol at any stage, some sects “allow” consumption but not require, am I wrong?

Re: Flawed Alcohol Policy?

Hinduism also allows consumption of alcohol, I blv, so by saying 'non-Muslim' they'll be included too.

Re: Flawed Alcohol Policy?

what is national drink of pakistan?

Re: Flawed Alcohol Policy?

No, Christians Mass rites neccessitate the drinking of wine. - the ceremony cannot de done without wine.

Hinduism allows alcohol consumption, but as far as I'm aware it's not a part of any Hindu religious beliefs.

The pakistani constitution clearly states that non-muslims are only permitted alcohol for religious purposes, ie where obligatory.

Re: Flawed Alcohol Policy?

hinduism is a way of life...drinking is obligatory.

Re: Flawed Alcohol Policy?

Most pakistanis drink for medicinal purposes, which is allowed, so religion doesnt come into it

Re: Flawed Alcohol Policy?

^ only Jam Sadiq is known to use 'medicine' as excuse for drinking, anyone else?

Re: Flawed Alcohol Policy?

Pakistan cannot start to evaluate which religion does or doesn't require or allow drinking....this is open-ended and subjective. It can only go by Islam, and can only differentiate between the people as "Muslim" and "Others", and have 2 policies.

what if i start a religion that requires daily drinking? if Christians can drink, then i should be able to as well.

Re: Flawed Alcohol Policy?

its flawed - cause the alcohal is not consumed by christians or any non muslims anyway. largest consumer still lies in Muslims. the others are just being used in supply chain.

its flawed - cause its provide protection to present and future alcohal factories to remain in function, ie Murree brewery and Queta distillary, and behram ..etc.

I dont think any form of Islamic law says that its ok to produce alcohal and not to consume.
its simply a hypocracy.

Re: Flawed Alcohol Policy?

I agree with Shak killS. Working in or around alchohol or other addictive substances, for recreational use, is not allowed in Islam. Any Muslim scholar will tell you that.

Re: Flawed Alcohol Policy?

I thinks we should adopt a handsoff approach, and let winos drink if they want to.

Re: Flawed Alcohol Policy?

^^ Yeap the policy is flawed. The worst thing is to enshrine it in the constitution. Sure we can declare certain states or areas as dry. However it doesn't work.

Instead Balochistan should develop its own wines and other brews. Dry area vineyards in Balochistan produce some of the best grapes. It is truly attrocious that none of these vineyards are known for their wine and food.

Re: Flawed Alcohol Policy?

London Lager brewed in Karachi. Or smuggled booze from India.

I know alots of Muslims in Paki land who can get hold of Indian desi daro in Lahore.
