So once I switched her off the bottle just before age 2, my little chickadee just completely abandoned milk. It was a big deal if I could get half a cup into her in a day, and it required HOURS of prompting sips. She’s lost so much weight recently due to travel and illness, and the loss of milk is just making it worse.
So last week I offered her chocolate milk. She LOVES it. And now I can be sure she’s getting 10-15oz of milk a day, with little effort on my part.
Is this really bad? Like I really didn’t want her to have all these flavored things, but she is otherwise a very healthy eater. She prefers fruits and veggies to cakes and cookies. She does like juices more than water, but what I give her is more watered down.
Anyway, what are your thoughts?
And are there any particular milk mixes you recommend?
That is one of my concerns. My daughter loves her 'hot doodh' and I really want her to stick drinking atleast some after I take her off the bottle.
I am not sure what other mixes can be used but can you mix half flavored milk and half regular milk for yours? It will have that chocolate look to it and if done gradually she might not notice the change in taste (though I doubt that with these toddlers..!).You will be able to control the sugar content slightly.
I'm using Nesquick and mix less than their recommended amount. Plus the sugar doesn't seem too terrible, tho not great. I may slowly and gradually decrease the amount.
I think she really is a chocolate fan. She had her first taste of a chocolate covered strawberry the other day. Oh my!
lol so cute... I guess a lil bit of everything is not a big deal.. I grew up on dodh rooh afza (I just wanted the pink milk and my mom will put in a few drops to change the color) and I turned out just fine. In fact I dont even like sweet stuff now :D
^ Yeah, we were allowed chocolate and strawberry milk. Never really liked plain milk myself (except with chocolate chip cookies :@: ). We turned out okay too. I guess I won't worry too much.
That would be my concern.A lil bit of chocolate in milk might be fine, but once you get addicted to that heavenly stuff you know how it is..:(.Mine has had chocolate milk and she loved it actually. Now she does not like anything else chocolate, not now atleast. But who knows she might be asking for chocolate cheerois one day too...
Anything in moderation should be fine. They are gonna know about all this one day eventually...
We used to have rooh afza milk in summers and ovaltine/nido milk in winters when we were growing up....:D
I was going to say Ovaltine, it is healthy and not so much sugar. My kids don't drink chocolate milk now only ovaltine and I don't give much just two tea spoons in 8 oz. cup milk.
I use the Nesquik powder and mix it myself for the reason you mentioned above. The Hersheys Syrup has high fructose corn syrup, so figured we could avoid that.
